I am in lockdown (day 20) with only 4 Penedesenca eggs... the rest were duds or quitters. I noticed that one has pipped... with no sound. I mean it. No peeping, no chirping, no nothing. Any other time, when eggs pipped there would be noise. It is moving in the egg so it is alive, but silent. Even when I tap on the window... no noise. ?

I have hatched hundreds of chicks and this is my first silent hatching...

Believe it or not, I actually had a whole lot of some hatch and were silent. At least initially... I keep the incubator in a room that is not travelled in or through, so no one goes in there... I had no idea I had 15+ chicks hatch already... They just looked up at me. I think it will be alright. Just give him some time...

Sometimes they will hatch silently. For them not to make any noise is not always a bad thing.

well, if ya'll say so...

But I now have two pipped and still not one "peep!"

And I have the hatcher in my living room and have spent the last 2+ hours in there and not one sound

You are only on day 20. Only if you have too, not recommended, carefully take one out and put it close to your ear. You should hear the chick moving. The sound will be faint, so don't freak. The worst thing you could do is try to help prematurely.

I can actually see the membrane moving through the chip in the shell, so I'm not necessarily worried about them being alive, they aced their float test yesterday before lockdown, all 4 were kickin'...

And the newest one to pip just did so within the last two hours... but silence? really? O.o

Had to siphon water in to refill the troughs this morning and got a peep for my efforts!!! 3 pipped now!
