Should I...?

I like to put my broodies in a separate area of the coop, partitioned off by wire, so I don't have to worry about other birds messing with the broody or her nest.
She has plenty of space to get up and stretch her legs/eat/drink/poop.
That way I can also tell if she's been up or not, broody pops are hard to miss.
I've found they don't get up much the first few days or the last few days,
but usually get up once a day or every other day. I let them decide if and when to get up, tho if they haven't gotten up after the first 4 days or so I will get them up and encourage to eat and drink.
I also touch my broody frequently, at least once a day, just gently lift her up a tad, pet her face and neck. This gets her used to you being 'involved'. She may bite at first but if you're calm cool confident she'll get used to it...can be a life saver if there's trouble and a stink saver if she does poop in the nest.

Ditto, BJ and Aart. If you are not set up to give her a private broody suite, you should mark all of her eggs, so that if she does get off the nest, and an other bird sneaks a late entry into the nest, you can remove it. My preference is to give the broody a private area to set her eggs. I have 3 such options available, and can arrange the set up so that the hen even has a private outdoor run for her to enjoy and take chicks to after hatch.

I'm actually making an area of the coop with another food and water for the hen and chicks so no one bothers them... The hen still has plenty of room, I just didn't want to be worried

I think a lot of us do this type of thing with our broodies, We have 2 broody cages in our run now, each with it's own private run. Works nice when the chicks hatch as well.

I actually have no idea when they should hatch, I was on vacation for 7 days so she could've started any time last week. I haven't candled... It's wicked exciting tho!!! I've only bought chicks before so this is a lot more exciting. The dad is a silkie and the momma is a brown hen idk what kind she is... I have barred rocks, black sex links and some tan mixed ones and then her and another brown one... I forget what they are...

This isn't her but it is the one I have that is exactly the same breed...anyone have ideas what breed she is?
