Awe, they are so cute! So glad you're having fun and enjoying this. Many of us would say this is the best part, when they're little, yet, when they grow up into adults, we can be so proud of them!Well, it happened!
The chicks have been home for 2 1/2 hours.
I showed them how to drink, and where to find their brooder plate, and later introduced crumble.
They've been exploring while quietly chirping , and then they go back under the plate for bit.
I keep thinking I have a window open, and am hearing birds chirp in the distance, then I remember that I'm sitting 5 feet away, so they seem content.
Thank you to everyone on BYC for all the great advice that got me this far!
I'm happy to answer any questions, or consider any recommendations.

A dot of food coloring on the tail feathers worked for me. Don't use red or pink because the other chicks will peck at those colors. How do I tell the 3 Buff Orpingtons apart?
The Plymouth Rocks have distinct markings, but the Buff's seem identical.
Good idea!A dot of food coloring on the tail feathers worked for me. Don't use red or pink because the other chicks will peck at those colors.
Excessive chirping sometimes means too hot or too cold. Do you have a thermometer? What an adventure.
Their chirping is loud this evening.
I checked for pasty butt, and saw a touch of poop (barely there) on two butts, so I cleaned them. No sense letting anything build up.
They have fresh water and food, and every time I interact with them they quiet down and want to walk on my hands.
They are active, running around, interacting with each other, kicking up the bedding I put in late yesterday, pecking at everything and each other, and resting in between...
Is the volume increase due to the fact that they are 2 days old?
Maybe they were exhausted yesterday from the trip home, and now they feel impowered?
They seem fine...
Did their vocal cords grow 2 sizes in one day?
Yes. It's around 75 at one end of their box, and around 91 under the brooder plate. It was the first time they've been so noisy, and it lasted for about an hour, and then they all bedded down under the plate, and I didn't hear another peep until 6:30 this morning.Excessive chirping sometimes means too hot or too cold. They will get the hang of going under the brooder plate when they are cold. Just keep on watching out for pasty butt.Yes.
