Should quail eat ants

Hello guys, so, should I feed ants to my 2 quail? I gave them some ants and they didn't eat it but killed it with it's beak, so now I'm confused, are insects food or toys to quail?

Most birds don't like ants, especially the ones that emit formic acid when they die. They smell horrible, and I can only imagine that they don't taste good.

Not sure about quail, but my chickens have never seemed to like them.

Flickers like ants, most other birds don’t bother with them. Some species secrete muric or Formic acid which isn’t appetizing and may be toxic in large doses. My son was doing this this summer and I had to ask him not to give them more than a few!
