Should we be worried?

We have FOUR laying hens. Three just started laying end of April and one older hen. We collected our FOUR eggs and were quite happy as this was the 2nd day of having 4 eggs. As we were closing everything up for the night tonight - LittleBit lays a 2nd egg! This one had a no shell - no pigmentation at all - almost translucent and squishy . LittleBit just started laying last week.

IS this anything we should worry about? We just switched from an all flock to a Layer Pellet and they have always had free choice oyster shells.

Shell less eggs are generally from stress. The egg comes out early.

I personally feed an All Flock year round. Layer is unnecessary and is often lower in protein.

I assumed that this was tomorrow's egg come early as she had already laid todays.

That's completely normal for new layers, since their bodies are getting this whole "egg thing" worked out.

I believe out of the roughly 26 hours it takes to make an egg, 23 of them are spent applying the shell. So it was probably tomorrow's egg, so it's an egg from the future.

When hens are just beginning to lay they sometimes lay wierd eggs.

I don’t think it’s anything to worry about!

Thank you all for the reply. The plot thickens... This morning I went out to let the littles out and clean the coops - there was ANOTHER shell-less egg! I can only assure who it belongs to, but - again?

Everyone appears fine?

In a few weeks you should return to normal eggs. Like I said, it's normal to get wonky eggs when hens are just starting to lay.
