My neighbors dog just killed one of my chickens. We have called the animal control to come pick up these dogs before. The owners new they were getting out and we have told them that they tried to get to our chickens. Well, ths morning around 4 am, the dogs were in our yard scaring our dogs and who knows what else. This afternoon, we discovered that one of the dogs had killed one of our chickens. The dog also jumped all over my 9 yr old dd and scratched her up. Animal control has already come to get the dogs, and they plan on issuing citations on the dogs, but I can still file a complaint. Should I file a complaint with the police dept? Please give me your opinions. My daughters are so upset right now. They are just crying.

while I agree that it is most likely the dogs killed the chicken, AC is going to ask if you SAW them kill the chook. Unfortunately, without actually witnessing it, they may not be able to file actual charges. Complain all you can, your dd being scratched/injured by the dogs should carry enough weight to have them charged with loose dogs or whatever is comparable in your area.

Oh, I leave my camera right by the back door, so I can grab a quick pic if any dogs come in my yard, but after losing 15 chickens to neighbors dogs, I solved the problem myself. Sad, but unavoidable.

I'm sorry about your chicken and very sorry your youngsters have to go through this.

Much as I would hate to have neighbors become enemies, yes. Those dogs have been out before, they've been warned. And jumping on anyone is NOT acceptable!

I am sorry for your loss .I hope your girl is ok . I would check with the sherff department . You look like you live in a subdivision and are close to neighbors . Have you talk to them about the chicken and your girl . Maybe they will pay you for your loss and compensate you if you have to take your girl to the doctor. Does she have to get a rabies shot ..Once a dog gets a chicken it will not stop .I would check out what your law is in your state .

Same thing happened with my neighbors.. killed tons of our chickens!! But we went over and told them what happened and asked them to pay $10 for each chicken. They payed up so everything was ok. I think if they have to pay you then they realize they better keep their dogs inside!

This is the best advice in the world. SSS

Shoot Shovel Shut up

Talking to neighbors and small claims court will not stop the dogs from coming onto your property. If a dog had done that to my daughter the dog owner and dog would be in intensive care at the hospital right now!!!
