for the last 5years my dh has been going to school at night to get his degree. well he's done yea! his employer told him he would get a nice raise when he was done so today they had the meeting and they're giving him $1500 more a year!! what!!
what a slap in the face! dh is on call every 3rd week always stays over everytime work needs to get done even when it not his week, the new hires are starting out making more than this , well there's another job but it's 300 miles away making 6000 more a year, i don't want to move but we've been depending on this "raise" to live on, we can continue to live like we are. dh has been working three jobs to make ends meet. oh i don't know i don't know. should we????

Do you own or rent? If you rent & have no kids, I think its a no-brainer - GO!

If you own, well that's a different story. What is the housing market like where you are at vs. where you would be going....

Do you have kids & are they in school?
What about family & your personal support system there vs. where you are at....

More Info....

we live on the family farm. so we wouldn't be selling the trailer we'd let my sis move in, dd is 2. my parents travel my dad's a contract pipe fitter, and dh's only has his 2 uncles here. he hasn't talk to his sis who live 15mins away in about 2yrs. my m-i-l well she's a hole in our pocket

You have a young family.
If it were me, I'd follow fortune after doing some research. What's the cost of living where you'd go? Are there other jobs closer to you?

Put that resume together and google the jobs that are out there. Doesn't hurt to do the research.

Find something really good, get a job offer, then (if you want) go to the current boss. Say, "Here's what I can get. Will you match it?" If they don't, hit the road....

wgc. cost of living is lower (n. arkansas) than here jax, ms
boss told him take it or leave it
I scared we'll have to live in an apartment or something in the city. no offense to city deweller. i've live in the county alll my life, even in florida, never less than 6acres.

Well, if it were me, I'd be offended by the "raise" offered and see what else was out there.

Being close to family can be both good and bad. That is a choice only you can make.

This sounds like good advice to me - they may just pony up more money if they are looking at losing a good employee and having to hire and train a new one.

Wow that bites. I had a boss once give me a 19 cents an hour raise after my first 6 months trial. So I understand the slap in the face feeling.

Can your DH point out to your boss that new hires are making more? I've worked for bosses before that if you don't ask you don't get and were happy to pay existing employees less than new hires. Had this happen to me once after working their 5 years. Went to the boss with this and my offer for 2 weeks notice if we couldn't reach an agreement.... I got a $1 an hour raise. LOL

My DH took a $6,000 per year pay cut to live where we wanted, like we wanted. He was working out-of-town and only got to come home about every 2 weeks and things were gonna get worse (and they did, according to his friends who are still there). He is home every weekend now, rarely works over (salaried at both jobs) and is way less stressed.
Arkansas still has a lot of land available, I say check into it. You might find a better life.

It's an awfully big burden on a guy to be the only person earning money for an entire household. Sounds like a potential heart attack.

Maybe more people in your family could get out there and contribute to the household income so you won't have to be forced to do anything or move somewhere you don't want to.
