Should you paint your roost?

I have 2x3s on their sides and I've sanded them smooth. Should I paint them?

It is just preference really. Painting with glossy paint will aid in cleaning.

I don't think so. I have one painted and one not painted. They don't slip and don't favor one or the other.

I painted all of mine. Primer and two coats of gloss, exterior paint. The paint is now worn off of most of the roosting bars.

I would probably paint any new ones, but it certainly seems that it does not matter.

I painted ours just to seal it a bit to protect from when they poop on them.
