This tumor thing reminds me of another recent thread and if I am not mistaken Marek's was the final diagnoses there.

Let me see if I can find it.

Oops I am late to this thread, but so sorry for your loss, OP. Your bird's wound looks exactly like the tumor my Faverolles opened up on her next last fall (linked above). I am seeing more and more subcutaneous Marek's cases on here recently but when I was dealing with my bird, I couldn't find anything about it manifesting that way. I even took mine to the vet thinking it was an abscess and he said it was an abscess or a spider bite, not Marek's -- he said if it were Marek's, it would be internal tumors that would only be discovered on a necropsy. I treated her wound for weeks before she finally opened up another tumor on her leg and I came to terms with it being Marek's and put her down. I had another bird with neurologic Marek's a couple weeks later who also was put down. The rest of the flock seems okay but I do treat them as though they all have it since they've obviously been exposed. It is really tough to feel so powerless but you did all you could. I hope your other birds stay healthy
