My son wants to take a baby chick to school for show and tell. At what age should the chick be to safely leave it’s mother hen for several hours?

They wouldn't normally be apart for hours until the baby has feathers and at that point, it no longer looks much like a baby chick. Could you bring mom and chick(s)?
