I'm starting another thread because I'm lonely and bored lol, I thought this could be a fun chat thread.

Who is your absolute favourite animal that you have and why?
Can be anything from poultry, to swine, to household pets.
If you can, attach a photo of them, and tell us all about them 😁

I'm going to cheat my own thread and say its a joint first, between Dougie and Sprightly, of course. No surprises there. I have a fair few animals, but these two are mostly all I talk about here.
Dougie and Spright are both girls, they're around a year old, and I hatched them myself!
They're both very affectionate and love to be around me. As crazy as it sounds to some, I consider them family, theyre closer than my own. My animals are my only friends and are very dear to me.

What about you, any animals that are close to your heart?

For me it’s my horse Ebony who never fails to be there for me. She’s taught me a lot and is my heart horse. And yes she’s family more so than real family sometimes.

Oh she is so gorgeous :love
How did you come to have her?
Ebony’s previous owner was an elderly woman who passed away sadly. She had always been an “extra” horse and didn’t have one specific person to bond with. Someone had promised to rehome all the woman’s horses if needed, and they originally placed Ebony in a veterans program where she immediately began training around wheelchairs and such, but as soon as the trainers tried to ride her, they found that she reacted in a negative way. She was constantly bucking and rearing and throwing trainers off of her, so she was unsafe to use for veterans. She then needed to find a home quickly, since they couldn’t keep her, and a friend of the people rehoming her reached out to us and asked if we just wanted her for free since she was a handful.

For free! Wow. I'm so glad she fell into good hands!

Horses have a special place in my heart, I studied equine years back, loved working with the more "aggressive" horses. In fact, one of them, Romeo, was quite a handful on the yard, but became my absolute favourite. We had quite a bond. I miss him

Yes. She was a lot of work, and still is 😝 but she is very much worth it! That’s so cool! I worked with a blind abused gelding who didn’t trust anyone, and after a long time he began to trust me and would come running when I would call. Once someone left the gate open and 40 horses got out and we’re running free. Cowboy, although he was blind and didn’t exactly know where he was, raised his head and RAN to me, while all the others went the other way. He left the safety of the herd for me. 😭 Unfortunately his owners couldnt spend the time needed with him and he was put down months after I moved barns. 😭💔 it truly broke my heart

That is so heartbreaking, sounds like he was such a special horse :(
I hope to have my own horse someday, I'd love to rescue one.
Our wild ponies get rounded up every year and some are auctioned to prevent an overpopulation, the others get health checked etc. They're quite well looked after, and most of the time they find homes- but some years there's no demand for horses, and they end up going extremely cheap and picked up by meat buyers. I knew someone once who bought a foal for £10. Seriously, £10.
If there are none local for adoption when I'm finally ready, I wouldn't mind hanging around one of those auctions someday, maybe save one or two if the bids are too low.
