My absolute best friend is Hazel, a spotted tabby cat.
She came to us around 5 years ago, when we had a real bad rat problem.
Around here, you don't get stray cats, you get cats which are feral, and have been breeding for generations, and they don't rely on humans at all, living of lizards, birds and rabbits.
Anyway, she came, and I started to feed her, and over about 6 mouths she became more comfortable around me.
And then came the magical day when she first took food from my hand, and then after that she went rubbing around our legs claiming us as part of her family.
She has had many kittens, until we said it was time for her to retire, and would find a cosy hole somewhere, and then try to take me there the next morning. (but our cat to human communication always seemed to break down at that point, leading to some stressful times kitten hunting!)
