Show chickens??? What kind should I get

Okay I only have 29 chickens right now and am wanting to get some more. I just dont know what kind I should get that would do good in show and such. Right now I have Golden Laced Wyandottes, Black Austrolorps, and Columbian Wyandottes. Would any of these chickens do well in a show?

I think only you can answer that question by answering: Do any of your present chickens conform to the APA's Standard of perfection for their breed? If yes, then, they'd do well. If not, then no.

If you've never shown birds, start with self colored varieties. That makes at least one variable simple. Learning about conformation and type, though, will take you many years of emberassng public mistakes.

Are they hatchery birds? You need to get a standard of perfection from the American Poultry Association, I think they are like $14 for a black and white.

It also depends on what type of success you are looking for. If they are standard (large fowl) the Wyandottes may do well in their variety, but may have problems beating the black or white wyandotte. They also show in the American Class, against the rocks, RIR, and BJG. Tough class to have "specialized bird" in. Traditionally, a quality Australop can hold its own in the English class. They have to beat the Orps, but I've seen them compete very well. Legs should be a dark slate.

I am considering buying some Columbian Wyandottes, but want to see some pictures of some that "regular people" have - not just the brilliant photos posted on the websites!
