I am looking into making and out door brooder and would love to see what people have done in the past any advise is welcome as well.

I live in southern AZ so it hot during the day and warm during the night. Looking to add some baby chicks in a few weeks but won't be able to keep them in the house like last time.

Mine is just a wooden box that's about 3x5 and is about 2 feet deep. It has a divider that I can slide in or pull out. I have used it for 30 years now. I put screens on top if I need a cover. I keep it in a shed when I'm using it. I personally have never brooded in the house and never will.

I'm terrible at taking photos, but basically what I did (as others here have done) is enclose the space under the nesting boxes and turned it into a short-term brooder. It was a bit dark down there, since the row of boxes blocked the light, but not too bad in the early morning, and after the second day of life they started following Gertrude outside to the chicken yard. So not much time was spent in there during the day. Mostly just at night.

This was my first time hatching eggs. It didn't occur to me that the heat could be a problem, so next time I won't let her sit on eggs any later than May. Surprisingly, though, the chicks have handled the heat really well.

Lol we just have a old chicken tractor whith removable doors that we put babies in and wood boards to cover fencing if chicks are overly small

Oh, I almost forgot. My husband made a brooder on wheels for my first ever batch of chicks last year. He used scrap lumber and some fencing material. It was maybe 2' by 4' long and had a lid on top you could lift up with a stick to hold it in place. The handle was a piece of leather from an old belt.
