Now, I have 2 broody hens. Will they all go broody if I don't separate them? Will it be a big broody festival? I don't have another pen right now. Help?

I have added eggs up to three days after they begin to sit. It's better to add them as soon as you notice, or at least have a back-up hatching plan.

Three out of my four silkies go broody together, every two months, one will start and the other two follow, always the same pattern. It's usually a nightmare if they're not separated. One hen will decide she wants the other nest and will leave her eggs, two girls sitting on one nest, etc. I'd try to at least put these two you have in the same pen together and give them both eggs, they may very well set together and raise them together.

And yes, definitely put more eggs under there if you have them. She/they will not lay while broody.

This was my hen Marti, who was killed by dogs back in June.

She was my second to go broody.

Toward the end of the laying time, ALL my ladies had gone broody...all 4 stealing/sharing 12 eggs, of which 6 hatched (as we suspected because initial moma broody got off the eggs her first night before going "full on" broody).

Here are her pics...she was a RIR and VERY protective of those eggies!

I'm in west central Mississippi. It was 29 degrees F last night. The night before it was in the mid 50s. Anyway, I have a little silkie Serama hen. I have been refrigerating her every other day eggs (that's how often she lays) and we eat them for breakfast. Would it be a good time to start leaving them to see if she will go broody? How do you go about seeing if they will go broody? Do you just leave the eggs outside in the laying box? Super Newbie question, I know. I want to do this so much!!!!!
