Sgtmom is that poop bin I am not sure what you call it. How is that working out for you. Do you find that the remainder of the coop stays cleaner. How hard is it to clean and how often does it need cleaning. How many chickens using that area?
Thanks for the nice comments. We live on 6.5 acres of woods in a mostly wooded area. We only have about a third of an acre cleared. There are a lot of rocks too - the back of the coop is resting on a very large rock. We are also fairly close to a State Park and have a lot of wildlife including hawks, an occasional eagle and had a racoon stroll through the yard this afternoon. Our Beagle was face to face with it for a short time, but both the Beagle and the coon decided to go their seperate ways. I was glad because the Beagle would not have won that fight - he is a lover not a fighter!
The "poop pit" works out well! Most of the time the girls (6 right now - with 11 eggs under a broody) the girls are out in the run. They only go in the coop to sleep, eat and use the nest boxes. The majority of the poop goes in the pit or is out in the run.
Wow, Brian, that is a beautiful coop! Is all of that building for your chickens? If so you need to get more to fill it!
