Show me your open air coops

I've been thinking of a 6x6 coop elevated 2 feet attached to a 6x15 run with 6 ft under the coop. The coop would be completely open in the front with access to the run 24/7.

Thank you for the search aart. It contained a lot of important information.

Chick Charm, thank you for sharing, but I'm looking for a more open design.

Mskayladog, I would love to see pics of your completed coop and run.

When I was in Phoenix there were a lot (if not most) open air coops. That is where I made the above coop. You can search the desert designs on things like craigslist to get several ideas. Open air coops are not all alike. Since you asked for ideas, here is open design I made with pure heart redwood. This one took me about a week to complete and is open and adaptable to a run.

When I get some time today I will take some pictures, the main thing is think about the direction the wind blows and rain blows. The open side of my coop never gets wet...but the last storm we had the walled side did. We seldom get rain like that here.

Thank you Chick Charm and Mskayladog

This is my coop right after I built it. The chickens were still too small to move in. Its not entirely open air but most of it is open. Since then I have added several long roosts so on hot night the girsl roost in the enclosure instead of the hen house.

Here is our new coop. Not really a coop just a huge run with a nesting box. We put tarps over the top to keep the rain off. This winter we will cover the north and west sides with plastic to keep the wind out. We plan to build a bigger shelter inside too. It is 8'x16' x 6'
