I'm also trying to find the right roost. If I'm right there two way to have a roost wide board and round limb. The wide board makes where the chicken can squat so they cover up the feet so they stay warm and the round limb kind will let the lock the toes around the limb and sleep standing up. I still don't know what is the better of the two?

However you build your roosts--keep in mind that a LOT of poop is going to fall directly under the roost. Keep roosts away from hard to clean places and feeders & waterers.

Also, I am a horrible chicken owner. My chickens are almost 9 months old and have never used a roost.

Will I have to train them to use it?
