There are several breeders with them, there were some listed on gbwf earlier, but I can't locate them now. Keep in mind, they are not winter hardy and will need heated quarters during the winter to keep them healthy and their large feet from getting frostbite. The Fulvous, while not as flashy as the White-faced, and the Red-billed are much hardier and would be good Whistling Duck species to start with and gain experience. I've seen White-faced sell for around $225 a pair, whereas the other species I mentioned cost less than a $100.

Yes, just an ordinary cold frame/greenhouse frame. I really want to attempt the large pen with the heavy duty flight net but I have a bad feeling with the Buffalo area snows we get.

The Fulvous Whistlers look great by the way..........I was going to ask about the winter and those legs/feet but I see you answered that.

So far my mandarins and woodies have completely ignored my wood-duck boxes...

These pics show my set up - I did get the heavy duty flight netting and so far no problem with snow. Of course - we've hardly had any snow this year so not a good measure of success!

I am reconfiguring everyone this weekend and will move the runner ducks that are sharing that pen right now. I have a sneaky fox that was pcikign them off one by one so they needed the shelter, but time is up. I am also going to add nest boxes for the calls. They are not laying yet so I hate to put them away.

Question - I have two male mandarins that pal around waaaaaaaaaay too much - what is up with these two? Not even looking at the girls? Then I have one mandarin boy who hangs out with all of them...

I don't get it.
