Show off your baby chicks!

I need to post new pics of mine, they've grown up so much just in the last couple of days.

They were doing all the could to avoid me & the camera, so this is the best I could get.

I have taken them out since day 1 and they run to me for safety! They are too scared to take off and I only have 2 to look after, so if you have more maybe take them out in pairs! My brooder is portable now so I plan to take it out as they get more confident and they'll still be confined in a play pen!

They will return to their safe home when startled or when ready for a rest break given the opportunity. This is why a side door on a portable or outdoor brooder works better than an open top with fixed sides design. They can just run back in the open door. And they will, usually all at once.

I now brood in a small coop with a run and the chicks are let outside of it for supervised range time from a very young age. They go back in with little to no guidance.

But that first batch that I started in a brooder box with no door? Horrible. I tried to take them out and then had to catch them to go back in. They didn't want to be caught and would go under the deck and other annoying places. Never again. The brooding coop is waaay easier and allows an easier integration into the adult flock.
