Show off your baby chicks!

I made up a dusting bowl for the girls, home soils mixed with a bit of wood ash. What'd they do....
Ate it, the lil piggy's. Their feeder is almost full so it's not that their hungry....

Mine eat it & poop in it

. I have to change it out at least daily.

@ChxLadyCass yep. I have had a dust bowl in their playpen (even thought it's outside ) but they never use it. We moved to a larger space today and she found this little sandy spot and just started rolling around. We have birds that I'd peg at probably 2 weeks older that still haven't taken a dust bath. She played in it for quite a bit then got out, shook herself off and joined the rest of the flock in pecking the ground ;)

What a magical moment to see! That's adorable! I have been slowly introducing things into the brooder. My girls are just 2 days old so I'm going to wait a bit to put in a dust bath. They learned how to scratch up their bedding today! So awesome watching them pick up these skills!

I've been told, from some good people here, it's good to have it in by day one. Although, I didn't know it until my chicks were a week old. In any case, they seem to really enjoy it.

I can easily throw it in today! They've hardly been home for 24 hours! Keeps them on their little toes waking up from naps and seeing something new! I thought my brooder was so big for two chicks, but now it's feeling so crowded! High maintenance little babies!

Was this just something she instinctually picked up?
Some of mine just found their dust bathing skills today, at 5 days old. I introduced the dust bath box yesterday and they checked it out, but nobody got down and dirty until today while getting some outside time. I'd guess about half of them (16 total) actually dust bathed.

Under the watchful eye of my cat, Simon. (I didn't catch any in the act, but that's their dust bath box.)
