i think I remember reading about that. The original Red jungle fowl are from that area and spread from there. not sure specifically about gamefowl though.

Initial domestication leading to domestic chicken involved hybridization between Red Jungle Fowl and Grey Jungle resulting in a population that was 85% Red and 15% Grey. Note native ranges linked below. More likely than not, the hybridization event(s) occured where the two species had overlapping ranges (India and Pakistan). Bankovid type gamefowl are likely the closest approximation to that original domestic population. The oriental (Aseel looking) class, despite being reputed by some to be older, have a lot of mutations that make their development from Bankovid types more likely / parsimonious.
