Show Off Your Games!

I am new in the world of chickens. I had a chance to pickup some games the other day that I know nothing about. I also am new at putting pictures on this forum but here is a picture of one of the roosters.

I'd call 'em American gamefowl, probably. As to what they are? No clue, it is a white rooster. And that's really about all you can say without information from the breeder, I had some whites that looked like that and they were a 5 way cross of White Kelso, Hatch, Grey, Shelton Roundhead, and Morgan Whitehackle.. But not saying that is what yours is, I think it's very unlikely truthfully

. Looks like he has a slight rose comb going on, it is a possibility he maybe partially Spanish.

McCoy Asil's are a bloodline. As for showable in the APA, I can't answer on that because I don't know the Asil standard. Neither do I really care much on the gamefowl, I plan to breed my Shamo's according to the Japanese standard, if it's good enough for the APA then great! If not, oh well

Another thing to take into consideration is not all lines will be show quality anyway even if they are called McCoy's, and McCoy's are known as show quality birds. Different breeders, different selection, different parents from which their offspring were thrown. Their lines may have started with culls, or crosses that were called McCoy's.. It's more important to study the standard and judge the bird's rather than the line/names. But that is just my opinion.

This is a McCoy cock, who was bred by probably the best known breeder of the line IMO, and given to me by a good friend recently. You won't typically see birds of this quality in any APA show IMO. This isn't the best pic, as he spends the winter inside, which is hard on feathers, but spring is here now, and it won't be long and he'll be in shape again. The only fault he would have is fitting in the Reza category, as his is almost Kulang in size.

Gotta tell you guys an Asil story. I breed Rampuri Asils, which are the Reza type, meaning they are under 6.6 lbs, or 3 kilos. Rampuris are black in color. Years ago, while living in Palm Beach County, FL, the president of the Palm Beach County Poultry Fanciers Assn. decided she had to have a pair of my Asils. I gave her a pair, explaining that they were pit bred and not easy to raise. Well, she bred the pair and complained that the chicks got in a battle royal one day when she was running errands. Four of the six chicks were maimed and had to be culled. So she raised the remaining 2 and, being in charge of the poultry exhibit at the South Florida Fair, she enterred them and the parents in the show. Now heres the kicker and how it ties in to the conversation as far as josh44 is concerned. The judge told her that those birds were too small for Asils. The stag was 5 1/2 lbs and his daddy was 6 lbs. This kind of ignorance is why I don`t take my birds to shows, as well as the fact that on another occasion at the same show, but a different year, I noticed 4 sick birds in 2 pens next to each other. Nobody had even been aware of them and nothing was being done about it. I almost came to blows with the guy in charge that night over their irresponsible lack of concern for the other birds in the show. Not saying that all shows are insensitive like those people, but why take a chance. We aren`t talking $5 barnyard mutts here. Sorry for the rant. I`m done now.........Pop

I couldn't resist sharing my games. Rooster is pure Johnny Jumper and hens are out of a Jumper hen and some breed of white Mexican game rooster. I don't have any pics of the white rooster because my dad left Regg (rooster in the pic) and his two brothers in the pen for too long. My mom was pretty mad when Peppy (white rooster) died.

Here's Regg all by himself. I hate it when his tail feathers get in rough shape like that.
