Show Off Your Games!

Thanks Pop! Yes, I drove 14 hours, one way, to Ish's house to get a trio. He has some really nice birds and some really big dogs! I felt like it was a dominance thing as he did the same with the older hen earlier. Haven't noticed them since he has mounted her but now it is with the other hen who has not started laying soon. I figure she must be getting rather close. I am proud of him as both girls were bigger and older than him to start with and I was worried that they may hurt him but he has come along nicely. Hopefully his crow will improve...right now he sounds like a bullfrog half submerged. But, it is really neat to watch them interact with each other. Yes, I thought I would enjoy them and I was right

ETA: He's winning the stand-offs.

That is a long drive. I have a friend who lives in Altha. His passion is Asils, as is mine. We actually share the same bloodlines. I`ve driven to his home from WPB on several occasions.
Your boy will be a force to contend with in short order. Don`t worry about him being mean, though. Nearly all orientals are very man friendly and easy to handle. Do yourself a favor and don`t hatch too many until you know what you have gotten yourself into. You will need seperate pens for all the stags at some point. Oriental fowl are really special.........Pop

I don't think I want to hatch any much. I debate back and forth about it as if something does happen to mine I am back at the beginning but I also do not want to have to deal with so many separate pens. Long debate with myself. You mean someone in Altha has Asils? Wow! I had no idea...course you could have giraffes in Altha and no one would know! My daughter lives there.

Hey Sharon, glad to hear you are enjoying your Shamo. I would love to see some pics of him on the ground lol. Sounds to me like he knows that that pullet is getting ready to lay and he is trying to redefine their relationship ha ha. If memory serves me correctly even the youngest one is older than him. I would think no harm will come from it as long as she has a place to get away from him. Do keep an eye on them once he starts to tread them as some times amorous young stags can cause injuries with their claws. I like to rotate the stags/cocks so they don’t spend the whole time with the hens. This gives the girls a break and also keeps the romance in the relationship.

He had done the same thing with the older around the time she started to lay. Now I don't see them face off like that just with the other now. It is an impressive thing to watch for sure! He never is the one to back off which is good because the girls were older than him and there was a bit of concern they may hurt him so I think they have gotten that sorted out. He seems to be good at the mating and doesn't fumble around any but I will watch. I can divide the pen out if need be as its 10x18. Are the araucanas going to continue to be okay in there with them? I haven't seen any issues yet. How high a fence can the araucana fly over. They seem to be able to fly pretty high. They are all out to free range whenever I am at home but while at school I have to confine them to the pen.

There is a feral american game rooster that comes around to the front yard (the shamo are in the back yard) and I am going to need to raise the fence height back there before I leave them out while I am gone so he doesn't cross paths with the shamo. I am going to put up a sight barrier on the outside side so they can't see each other either. The feral rooster and my serama spar through the hardware cloth so I am sure the feral rooster has no clue what the shamo could do to him!
I am enjoying them so much!
Thanks Ish

Here are four from today.
