Here are samples of my hens. I have Wheatens, BBReds and BBBrowns. I have three or four of each and I want to one of the above rooster with each type.

Basing purely off of color alone and which roosters I think look the best, which is not typically what I select for (I breed for personality, weight, health, and many other factors in all of my birds) I would breed the top cock to the middle and last hen. The last cock to the first hen if I wanted ones that were to be more closely related to the birds type.

The brown red hen (middle) as she'd be called by many AG breeders though really could go with either as most times brown red is dominant. I've just always liked Hatch X Brown Reds which Hatch is what the first cock closely resembles.

ETA: I've also seen some Hatch X Roundheads/Sweaters/Clarets many of which I've owned (Hatch X Radio, Hatch X Kelso, etc.. as well) which is what your first hen closely resembles. Depends on exactly what you are looking for.

Thank you. You are right. The top cock is a Hatch. The bottom two are his sons, but I lost track of who their mothers are. These are my best males from 24 I raised last year. Their mothers could have been either one of the three types of hens I have. Is there a reason you don't like the middle male (straight comb maybe)? I will almost bet that the middle male is the son of the Hatch male and that bottom BBred female (because she is my only hen with a straight comb). As far as hens go, I have 3 Brown Reds, 5 BBreds, and 3 Wheatens. I was thinking of penning up the Hatch (top) rooster with the BBRed hens, the bottom rooster with the Weaten hens and the middle rooster with the Brown Red hens.

If I did it this way, what I call the offspring of each set?

The middle bird is nice looking as well, the single comb isn't really an issue with me though I do prefer pea combed birds. I imagine the bird will probably mature out to look like his father, but in general I prefer breeding cocks over stags anyway as stags change so much until they are fully mature in stature and temperament (I.e. a bird maybe fine until he reaches about a year, or even two years then turn into a manfighter. Manfighters are culled on my yard).

Less problems typically occur breeding mature cocks than stags. But if the line is good usually stags can be bred with results that are just as good, nearly as good, or better than the predecessors. Just depends on what you're looking for, if you were aiming more to type/color I think the first hen and the last stag would be best paired together. The offspring out of the BBred hens/hatch cock would be called either BBred or Hatch which ever you prefer.

The Wheatens (I.e. bottom stag/top hen) would just be wheaten since I don't know the line heritage (roundhead, sweater, etc). Middle stag over brown red hen could be referred to as a Hatch X brown Red or truly just "brown red" if the color matches. Many peoples "Brown reds" are not what people would call pure, they all carry hatch blood or some other black blood, etc. It is after all just a color anyway.

God bless,
Daniel.

Thank you Daniel. That was extremely informative. The first rooster is a little over two year old and he is a great bird. Very friendly with me. Walks right around my feet and I never even seem him get nervous. None of his sons have displayed any aggressiveness towards humans. The middle stag is just like him as far as attitude. The bottom stag, I don't really know. He is very wild and stays out in the woods with a few hens most of the time. I only see him every now and then and he runs back into the woods if anyone comes within 100 yards of him. I can only catch him at night when he is on the roost. He sure is pretty though.
