Make so hottest air in pens can escape upwards. When practical have covers a lighter color so reflect more heat.

the pens are vented , no issue there. I just thought they would be a little cooler than they were. All is well.Make so hottest air in pens can escape upwards. When practical have covers a lighter color so reflect more heat.

If I were to set up another cockyard and had the funds I would form up an area with2x6's like a house slab and fill it with pea gravel then put the pens on top of that. Spring is the worst here cause it's soo rainy like living in a rain forest just this year it had me wanting to sell out a few times. That's what got me out of gamefowl back in the day when the game was legal the rain. It started raining and I got called into work ( fire dept ) and by the time I got home about 36hrs later I lost about 150 birds total all different ages and was totally disgusted.Just hurricane sandy a couple years ago. It took me awhile to round up the peacock and Guineas. I don't know how you guys down there deal with that. I get frustrated when my chicken run gets all muddy, constantly throwing down fresh straw. Then again I spent most of this past winter digging my chickens out of the snow.
actually the pen is vented at the highest point of the pen above where the tarp is covering. The hot air will rise and eventually out the vents shown covered with wire.Pen shown with tarps not vented as I described.
I can't even imagine that! I thought about using pea gravel too. Heck as it is I have to fix two gates and replace two of my small runs that are attached to the coops. I know if I could I would do a few things differently like making the gate to my back run big enough to fit my lawn tractor through. I have to trim the whole thing now. What a pain, and yes I'm an idiot for that one. Small steps, everything is expensive though. If I were to set up another cockyard and had the funds I would form up an area with2x6's like a house slab and fill it with pea gravel then put the pens on top of that.
