Thanks, looks like in that hen pic you have a brown red......could you sell purebred hatching eggs from brown reds?

I'm sure Shes not a pure breed but she has very similar coloring to your hen. She's 13 weeks in this picture. Do y'all think has some game in her. She is slightly smaller than all my other breeds of the same age and has a very tight build. I'm a total newbie and don't know exactly what I have, so y'all be easy on my uneducated guessing.

Well, the cock I used to produce that cockerel is a BBRed, so they would not be pure Browns Reds. But BBRed and Brown Red are not that far apart and you can throw some good looking Brown Reds from that match up as we see in that cockerel I sold to that guy. But not all of them are going to turn out that way. I should have kept that cockerel I sold and bred him back to his mother to get a pretty good BR cock. That would have given me a much purer BR cock. I am negotiating with the guy to borrow that bird back from him and in exchange I will raise him a dozen of the offspring. It is too hot right now, but maybe later this fall we will try it if my BR hens are still laying. I matched that hen with a different BBRed cock this year because I had my Hatch cock on some pure BBRed hens. None of the offspring from this years match up are turning out to look as good as last years. I was short on cocks this year because I sold a bunch off and then a sudden rash of hawks wiped out all but four of my cocks in just a couple weeks. It was too late by the time I noticed it and could lock the remaining four up to keep them safe.

My main focus this year was Cubalayas and Dominiques and I only hatched a small amount BRs and BBRs. I did hatch about three dozen Greys to get some more good hens, but only got 3 pullets out of the lot. In the fall I will try to hatch some more BRs and BBReds. If I get a good BR cock out of this years breeding I may sale BR hatching eggs. Or I may match my Hatch BBRed cock on my BR hens and sale eggs from them.

Anyone ever do DNA testing on their fowl like some do for dogs to find out what mix they have

Let me say this my limited knowledge in Cockfighting comes form 30 yr ago... until last year I hadn't had birds for 30 yr...Cockfighting is illegal (so is speeding) I don't raise my birds for illegal purposes. People that buy my birds take them to Mexico and make house pets.


Historically speaking Game Cock should have a thick breast, small intestines ,strong and fast, Smart is the most impotent (that was in long heel)

Feed and handling is just as impotent as the bird..

I hate bring this up but in those days there was a line of Round heads that wasn't Dead Game but they fast, strong, and smart they could win without getting cut much...

All Gamefowl are junk until they prove otherwise
