With all due respect centra blue faced hatch has nothing to do with plumage rather that the original cock turned blue in the face while sparred. http://www.ultimatefowl.com/wiki/index.php?title=Blueface_Hatch

That original hard hitting bird must have been wormy or suffered a little carbon monoxide poisoning from riding trunk of car at the time of sparriing. Both of those conditions can cause birds to get blue face with minimal exertion. Birds pointed out to me as Blue-faced Hatch in my youth were consistently as I described rather than as wheaton depicted in the link. Birds I was exposed to may not have been representative.

Still trying to find what was written on history of hennie gamefowl where first account indicated in earlier post.

I never heard of one before go hennie colored and not have other signs, however I did have the hentard last year. That was his name.I had a cockerel do the hennie thing last year. It was a Delaware, and I culled him. I didn't want any rooster going all hen on me. Hentard's comb and waddles stayed medium sized, and he crowed a tiny bit not much at all, however he never got the large tail, or the saddle feathers, and he even would sit in the nesting box. I swear it was like having a cross dresser around. He wasn't a hen and he wasn't a rooster. At 13 months he was half and half. His 2 brothers were fully developed at that point, with huge combs and waddles, and not him. This made the 4th rooster that I ever saw that went all henny on us.

I would assume all hatch lines could come wheaten and wild type. I mean alls hatch I'll even go further back and say alls bbr just who developed their likes to a certain line

I don't know anybody that breeds towards wild type hatch hens but it is thrown guess that's why there's a lot of wheaten mostly lines.and and and I would also assume that the fowl of your youth were a lot more " original " than today

Yes, I think the older version of Hatch was dominated by BBR and was green-legged with straight comb. Some of the more recent versions have been infused heavily with Oriental making for the peacomb and yellow legs so often seen together. Some of the Hatch I see here in Missouri even look shape wise like they have a lot od Aseel in them as well. The wheaton variant could have been around all along but I did not see it frequently in what we called Hatch unless they had some Kelso or Sweater crossed in. Also we must acknowledge the names do not always mean much if birds crossed in a lot or someone makes a mistake stocking breeding pens or even miss labels birds up for sale. Last one I know goes on even today because sometimes the name is more important than the bird when making a sale. When you add all this together plus lots of time it kind of dilutes the value of a given birds reputed strain.

My current birds are consistent with what we had back in the 1970's and before. I would not call my Hatch but even back then they were frequently referred to as Hatch looking although my grandfather was quick to say looks can be deceiving even though some Hatch figured into their development quite a while before my time. I come away with thinking that Hatch are simply the base model for American Games that are good sound birds if you are not into the eye candy aspect of games..
