I know.. they come in all sorts of colors and traits. And those are just the many visual differences... imagine all the differences in styles, weights, attitude, etc that we dont see.

There is some general guidelines though. Generally hatch is used as a foundation.

That's not to say that the good ol Americans can't and ain't still breeding true gamefowl. My point is some are good for crossing some are good solid foundation to keep the gameness alive and well once that's gone it's gonna be heck to get it back if you ever do.

Havoc has blacks of all sorts.. different parents, comb types, feather colors, body shapes, weights etc etc.

And now SOHC has some... when he sells them what does he call them? And when that new buyer gets them, what do you think he will call them? (maybe warhorse, maybe miner blue, maybe mugs?) Nobody knows. Will he even remember all the different bloodlines that SOHC told him?

If a man is a good breeder and cares for his birds in my opinion he cares what the man befor him calls them. Look back in history, crosses are made and new family's created but it still came from somewhere. Without history there is no present or future

All gamefowl are crosses at some point...

Hatch from California may be 180 degrees different than a Hatch in the Carolinas.. or even from the guy down the street from me...because people put names on fowl based on what they look like (usually based on colors and comb type)

Technically you’re doing that by calling those skinny long legged birds a hatch. Don’t you have modern game and RIR bred into them?? I don’t know buddy.

The blacks I have are all Mel sims blacks. I got them from 3 separate people then blended them together. They are still Mel sims blacks. I suppose any crosses that I have and wanted to set as a family would be mine technically. I am not that pompous to think like that though. I’m not trying to blab all over the place like I’m any better than anyone else. All I’ve done is tried to pick out the good ones to breed. Simple as that.

I don't sell birds shubin i haven't once sold or even thought about selling a feather of what havoc gave me either. Now if I do some crosses and see them fit to live here which means a lot to me I'm sure havoc wouldn't care one bit if I sold crosses, but I have more respect than to sell his straight stuff without asking him and if I ever needed more black to freshing up which if I cull right I shouldn't for many many many years then he has sub families of blacks. Im not gonna cross these and call them something they aint I'll be as honest as the day is long about anything if I add something to them I'll say so.

This year I've got del Mac eggs that hopefully hatch straight off the mug hen he sent me, I'll be crossing her to the black havoc sent me, I'll be running that black over a black/ruble hen and I'll be doing straight blacks as well that is if all goes well and I've got leg bands to help me keep up with it all.

Oh and a kelso pullet that may or may not be setting on fertile eggs that about sums that up.

It’s all bullsh*t. Can’t even cull a bird yet raising outstanding gamefowl. I gotta find my waders. I couldn’t raise outstanding silkies without culling a bunch. Gimme a damn break. Stick to keychains.
