cubalaya,
Are those true Cuban Gamefowl or are they Cubalayas?

If I'm not mistaken the Cuban Gamefowl are a single comb bird and carries there tail higher and yours look to have a pea comb and carries there tail low something like a Cubalaya.

Chris

they are cubalayas. i have seen puerto rican gamefowl that match your description but not cuban game(fowl). i called them cuban games because thats what they are; 'cuba's fighting meat chickens'. unless you are talking about means red cubans aren't true but have spanish and american blood or cuban doms which are mixed too.

Most all of the Cubans, Puerto Rican, Spanish, Columbian, and i "believe" Argentino gamefowl all look identical (or very close), and are as Chris described. Though they may throw rose combs as well, or at least i know the Spanish will. I don't know much on them though, never had any experience with them and they're the hardest fowl i've ever seen to find information on the net about.

something like a cubalaya? that would be like saying your birds are something like a rhode island red. are you saying that the cubalaya is not a game? not only are they a game (wheaton coloration and fighting skills) but they are good layers and have prime white meat.

I think you misunderstood Chris when he said "something like a Cubalaya". I don't think he was saying your birds didn't look like Cubas, or they weren't games, he was just saying the birds did not look like Cuban gamefowl, but more like a Cubalaya (meaning, they look like Cubas, but may not be sure). Or at least that is what i interpret "something like" or "more like" as, and i could be wrong on that, will have to wait until Chris gets on to know for sure.

I've talked to Chris a few times, and to me he honestly didn't come off much as a person to troll or say anything insulting even when he and others had disagreements.

ok, no problem. just wanted to post a few pics of my games, which are pure cubalaya , while cuban game fowls are a mixture. sort of like the difference between old english games, which are pure, and american gamefowl which are a mixture. they are all games.

All games are a mixture really, even the layers and other breeds too. I wouldn't say all the Cuban gamefowl are crossed with American though, there are true Cubans too other than the Red Cubans George W. Means created.

definitely most chickens breeds started as a mixture. the rhode island red from malay and cochin blood. the barred rock from java and dominique. but they have been bred to purity over the years and breed true. you cant really call cuban gamefowl a breed while the cubalaya is a breed.
