Do you raise lots of Shamo. I just added some to my yard the other day and am looking for another line to work with. Guy

I'm just getting started myself, my stock came from Prariechiken. I'm breeding from two pairs, so far this little stag is all I've gotten but I have a couple dozen set to hatch this coming Sunday I believe, and plan to set some more.

Ps.. Nice bird GG, not a big fan of doms but the golden look works with it

these games of his dont seem fat or mushy at all except maybe one or two hens, the rest seem starved, after been penned for a while, and the roosters especially sometimes get to be nothing but bones, but this month there is always some corn around the pen i think. do they need oyster shell or something else to digest it? i used to never bother with mine, and just gave them their egg shells ground back, as told my soil has all they need for minerals etc and grit. just the pheasant i think needed more, or was it quail..

oyster shell is only for calcium, small sand or grit helps with digestion. A diet of straight corn isnt good for a bird, regardless of whether they can survive on it. You could survive on nothing but ham sandwiches, and water but it wouldnt be healthy.

i just feed mine a mix of dog food, chick feed, laying pellets, and exotic bird food, as well as alot of scraps, and mine seem to be the glossiest birds ive come across. ooh, almost forgot i feed alot of feeder insects that i keep huge bins with some having eighty pounds of giant cave roaches in (i sed to breed reptiles, and cut down numbers alot, but couldnt part with all of all species, so they surge in numbers sometimes and i feed forty pounds about to my birds on average a week). you wan to see a tussle, throw a giant cave roach to a bunch of hens, as one is never enough, and theyll try to flat out kill each other if i dot throw out a least half a pound at a time (you would think thered be escapes but usually only one or two if lucky!). anyone think id do ok with selling as game bird food for conditioning, or what i should charge? as i know expensive reptile food, but not sure what one would pay for game cock food, though one offered me a hundred for four pounds of ready to breed colony. ive given bags of dead ones away as samples, and everyone seems awwwd at results, but two noted they just threw all in, and birds got poops (im assuming maybe just to much protien like when first feed layer pellets?). i have differant nutritional content of exotic roaches (non flying/climbing, except for hissers) for differant species of reptiles (and sizes), as well as just plain old meal worms as well. is it maybe just a waste of to much protien for them? thanks for the sand suggestion, was wondering if itd be enough, but suggested at least cheap sand to put out for them. i have alo of types of pets so seems the chickens are happy with the variety, and they lay everyday that not let brooding (except my one bantam hen who hides her eggs by others, so not sure how to tell which eggs/wuld be hers..

ok just realized how my question sounded... hahaha yes know what generally grit is and how i works (some finding reptiles need grit too, and why they get impacted eating odd things.), but around here told to get grit being some mix of things seemingly like sand pea gravel, and other indeterminable things, that are sold at high prices for layers. wasnt so into chickens anywere else yet, so was curious if was just local, or i am missing key things and was just lucky so far. also anyone else seem to notice the old grit and bile being left in the water containers, or is this just one of those things.. ? as im just curious as to why only seemingly in the water, and never noticed passes through. do they just digest wht they swallow or are they just not passing? when was cleaning up landfill area of yard, layers i had ears ago would eat and pass all sorts of odd objects, as well a vommit back up in water all the time. i just got to figuring chickens were like goats.
