aren't ko shamo and bantam shamo the same? i read description for shamos and their exists three types that differentiated by size, o-shamo, chu-shamo, and ko shamo. the ko shamo are the bantam size of all three types. and the chu shamos don't get over 4kg in weight while the o-shamo do.

No.. Ko Shamo are true breeding small shamo from Japan.

Bantam shamo were created in US by breeding down in size from existing Shamo stock.

Ko shamo and bantam shamo are not the same. Ko are not a bantam version of the o shamo, they are a distinct breed in their own right. Shamo means something like gamefowl in japanese, it's not a breed so much as a description. so, Ko means something like small gamefowl. The bantam shamo are the bantam version of the large o/chu type shamo, they were really made in the USA, and don't exist in the same form in Japan. Bantam shamo are APA recognized, Ko shamo are not.

so basically a bantam shamo is 'not a game bird' but a 'show bird' created in the US from the shamo and the ko shamo is a small shamo which is a small game bird not recognized by the APA? ok here is another discussion on the same topic in another website.

Updating people on pics of my Shamos. My stag has now matured beyond his title and is over a year old, but on the downside, my hen's only chick, a very nice pullet, died today. This year for chick raising is the worst ever for me. Looks like I'll have to wait another 2 months to see a Shamo chick again.
