It's pretty soft & white looking, not stuck to him just kind of laying on him loosely. He popped off a big piece of shell & there's a definite space between the shell & membrane. It looks like i can take him out of the shell & he'd be in a soft white egg like a snake egg. I'm at work but the roommate said he hasn't made any progress since I left. He's still seeing a beak & he talks to the chick & the chick peepers back at him.Is the membrane wet enough?
I think the membrane is supposed to be tanish if there is enough moisture.
I'd wrap loosely in a damp paper towel in the incubator.
Anybody else have an opinion?
I always hesitate to chime in on anything to do with Muscovy because I don't understand the ways they differ from the Mallard-derived ducks. I did think the same thing when I saw that egg, though. The membrane looks extremely dry, which causes them to get tough and rubbery and hard for the duckling to work it's way out of. At least that's how it is with Call ducks.
What I do is mix a small amount of Bacitracin into some warm water, then dip a qtip in that and roll the qtip over the membrane to moisten it. Call ducks often can't get hatched with a membrane that looks that way, but it might be different with Muscovy since they have much longer bills and are stronger than Calls.
YAY! He is doing well, then! Thank you!Ummm... she's hatching a Serama chicken, not a duck, lol... white membrane is very good, if it dries out then it turns tan/yellowish...
