Show off your house ducks!

Pics
I was at the thrift store picking up easter decorations for their "photo shoot" (I'm making a calendar of them) and I came across these mini hat hair clips.
I always thought they would look adorable in a mini cowboy hat or top hat, but this will have to do for the mean time.

Ah, okay, so you just clip the hat to her feathers? I'll have to give it a try. Bunny is a call duck so her head is pretty tiny, but hopefully she has some big enough feathers. For Easter I got a chocolate bunny that had a stretchy red scarf on, so I'm thinking maybe Bunny can wear that too.

Yes, I just clip it on. Thu have baby feathers on their head, just enough for it to stay.
Definitely need pictures of her with a scarf. That would be adorable.

So, those of you with dogs and house ducks... How'd the intro go between them? And what kind of dog do you have?

I'll definitely try the hats. And as soon as I finish my chocolate bunny, I'll try the scarf on Bunny. Ha, around Easter time it's hard to talk about Bunny without confusing people.

As for johari's dog question, my duck and I lived with my parents for nearly 7 months, and they had a golden retriever who was about 6 months old when we moved in. The first meeting between duck and dog was a disaster! It would've been fatal if the dog had been on a longer leash, because he ran towards the duck with his mouth open and fangs bared. He wanted to eat the duck so badly!

Over the next 2-3 months, though, we introduced them slowly. Coby (the dog) still liked to chase Bunny (the duck), but he didn't try to bite her. As time went on, their interactions became less exciting, and eventually they were down to a few sniffs and chases here and there, but they mostly ignored each other.

By the 6th or 7th month, Coby and Bunny had actually become friends. While there was no doubt that Coby, as a golden retriever, wanted to "retrieve" Bunny and present her to us, there was also no doubt that he had learned that Bunny was a family member and that doing any harm to her would result in a most severe "bad-dogging." After sniffing her for a few minutes, Coby would just lay down and watch Bunny out of the corner of his eye as she ran around the yard.

Now, I've moved out of my parents' house, and 2/3 of the way across the country! Last time I talked to my parents, they told me that Coby seemed to miss Bunny. While I try to give Bunny all the attention I can, I don't doubt that she misses Coby, too. They may have made each other both a bit uneasy sometimes, but at least they provided each other with entertainment. They got a long and amused each other.

That was a long story, but there you go! That's my dog and duck story.

I have 4 dogs & Daisy living in the same room.
A Kangal/ Great Pyr mix pup about 85lbs, a Normand Basset about 45lbs, mini dachshund/rat terrier 4lbs & a 2lb chihuahua. The dogs are crated while I'm out & the duck is too. They all see each other all day in their own crates. I always acknowledge & give treats to the duck first then the dogs so they know the order in my house.
She is never left unattended with them because they are animals & although I trust my training with them I still have a responsibility to Daisy to keep her safe.
That being said, I have washed her & walked into the kitchen to come back to a wet duck sitting on my biggest dog preening herself & him not even caring. The basset just loves licking her & at night all 5 sleep with me on the bed. Daisy was introduced since I had her at 2 weeks so they've always known each other & haven't had any problem so far. :)

@ Scovy Mama - Thank you. I have PM'ed you. Lucy will be so happy to have a diaper once it's made! (I let her pick out some fabric today - she picked out a bright print, so I'm ready to sew!) I'll see if I can adapt the size for Lucy's neighbor, Hope, our indoor chicken.

As far as dogs & ducks - we have an American Eskimo and a chihuahua (as well as 2 cats). They all have learned to give my duck, Lucy, a wide berth when she is not in her crate. She bullies them into sharing their food, she plays in their water bowl and chases the cats. The chi often lurks nearby wating for a few layer pellets to be spilled or an errant poo to hit the floor, but the eskie prefers to lay down out of the way and observe. Lucy makes her disdain of all things dog and cat clear by hissing loudly and snaking her neck low to the floor when they are near, and has pulled fur more than once, so they all let her have her own way. I am always vigilant when Lucy is out, because they are predators and she is prey, no matter the training. I owe her a safe life (she was raised as a houseduck by the friend of a friend before she came to me and is the lone survivor of a raccoon attack on my duck flock, so now she has the ground floor apartment in the Cluck N Duck Townhouse in our kitchen. Our crippled Silkie, Hope, has the penthouse.)

I am thinking of dressing up Lucy and Hope and taking their pictures... Hope will love it (she already has a sweater that I have to fight her to take it off when it gets warm, or needs cleaning) , but Lucy may complain - unless it involves peas. She'll do anything for peas!
