and this was before he got his big boy colours :) he loves his bowtie momma made him.

Guys, I need your help! Misty is driving me nuts, when I first built her nest for her to lay her eggs in she loved it, used it several times. But she now refuses to use it and found my rabbits hay bin behind her nest to lay in, but now, not even that is good enough. She now almost insists on laying her eggs outside in the flower beds. I don't give in to her wants because during the dead of winter when it's cold, wet, and rainy out, It's just not gonna work! My parents insist on having the door wide open when it's nice out, so she was able to come and go as she pleased, now I don't know how to stop her spoiled habit! It's sounds terrible writing this because I know ducks are normally outside animals, and there is a reason for that, but it's so frustrating.

And now, she is ripping paint/drywall of the walls and eating it! I've tried blocking off the spots, but I have splattered walls, so she can pretty much get ahold of it anywhere! She has just become obsessed with it in the past few days, I'm thinking it's boredom. I was thinking of making/buying toys that she can rip and tear at to try and get her to stop, but I can't really think of anything along those lines.

Any toy or stimuli suggestions would be awesome! I know I need to mimic foraging behavior!

I can't chime in on your other issues as I'm very new to ducks. :) However, Quackers lovessss these two toys. He loves when I throw the fish. He'll run after it lol. The other one crinkles, he'll lay there nibbling on it. My cats chewed off the feathers it had on it. Both were gotten at Wal-Mart.

Gah! I was just at Walmart and I didn't see anything like that, I was looking for toys that crinkle too! I did get her some toys at the dollar store and thrift store, we'll see how she likes those.

I have a messy suggestion- give her dirt:
Our ducks love dirt, mud and muddy water. Try hiding treats (meal worms, peas, sand/grit) in a shallow tray filled with fresh potting soil (untreated with chemicals of course). She'll have fun rummaging her head in the dirt and finding the treats.
To minimize mess, narrow tall pots work great because the ducks can't climb into them, just dunk their heads. Anchor them down so they can't be tipped over, add some mud on the bottom and fill with water.

Awesome, hope she does. :) Oh funny thing, after I responded to your post Quackers is now nibbling on our drywall lol. All I did was say "ah uh" (in Mexican it basically means no lol) sternly & loudly. He picked his head up looked at me then tried testing me & was about to do it again so I yelled it again he got up & walked away lol.

Oh, I know that look VERY well! They sure do love to test their boundaries, don't they? XD Wobbles just hit her rebellious teenage phase so she's been a bit harder to control. I just gotta keep reminding myself "it's only temporary...it's only temporary"

Hey, I had a question for you all, too. I'm trying to get Wobs used to me examining her, touching her feet, spreading her wings, etc. to make it easier for when I have to trim her nails, clip her wings or change her diaper. Is there any sort of way to ease this? She HATES having her bits touched, and even distracting her with goodies has failed.

What happened to the sweet Wobs? Lol. Quackers is still a pain with the nibbling but is getting better. I keep telling myself the same thing, it's only temporary Lol.

I use to have an issue with Quackers when I had to wipe his butt after he laid in his poop. After baby talking him and doing it often he now seems to enjoy it lol. As I'm wiping he'll keep lifting his booty higher and higher Lol. I think it's just the same with cats and clipping their claws. First they hate you touching their feet then they get use to it. All my cats now just sit there still and let me clip their claws. They even like when I massage between their toes. They'll spread their toes wide and start purring and fall asleep Lol. Just gotta start out slowly and build up that trust. :)

Oh, she's still an absolute sweetheart, she just runs for the hills when I try to A) pick her up or B) change her diaper! I think you're right though, I should try the softly-softly approach, maybe she'll get used to it in time.
