Show off your house ducks!

He doesn't react to mirrors. He doesn't even really seem to like baths, either, which is weird. And I dunno if I can handle the mess that potting soil would bring, hehe! I do like the string idea, though. His favorite things EVER are hair ties, he'll chase them, nibble them, toss them, you name it! Maybe I should get a laser pointer...I just feel bad, I feel like I'm not enriching his life as much as I could be, you know?
The Ultimate Pet Duck Guidebook has a section on enrichment. When I get an opportunity I will look for that here (I may have "reorganized" it) and share some of the ideas in that book. Majestic Waterfowl's site may have a little of that on their pages, I don't recall.

I've got that book! It mostly deals with outdoor ducks though, doesn't it? Pretty sure that's where I got the mirror idea. It's just too bad it didn't work. We usually wind up making our own toys, with hair ties and heavy duty cellophane (he loves crinkly things!).

But there are many times when I'm bedridden for medical reasons, and he'll just sleep next to me or at the foot of the bed for hours and hours during the day, and I just feel so rotten for the poor thing.

I have noticed with my Runners, who are largely outdoor but spend nights and inclement weather (in New England, that can be days at a time) in their indoor night pen, that they seem content spending a good portion of the day napping, as long as they are with their peeps.

And you are Wobbles' flock mate. So he may not be in such bad shape.

Hmm, that's good to know, actually. I still feel like I don't exercise him enough though. I can't wait for Spring when I can get him a buddy!

I miss coming here so often. Your house duckies are all so beautiful!
If my Miss Daisy were here she would give you all a big "Chirp!"

Question: You guys know how dogs have that one spot where if you pet 'em they go bonkers, kick their legs, etc? I think I found the duck version! If you scritch Wobbles juuuuust right on a spot on the back of his head, he closes his eyes and starts clacking his bill like a maniac!

Also ScovyMomma, Daisy was one lucky duck to have you as her mommy. <3

ChaCha doesn't have a SPOT,she just has to be in the right mood. If she's in her happy place she will coo and fall asleep when I scratch her head and neck .

You should get a video of that! I'm sure everyone would LOVE to see that!!!

Ha, I'm trying to! I'll have one uploaded soon. Also, does ChaCha sleep on your pillow? Wobbles has discovered that he absolutely loves sleeping right above my head. Probably so he has easy access to my hair and piercings. I've woken up with quite a few rats' nests up there lately.

Yup sounds about right. I don't let her sleep near my head because of that. That's part of why she's crated at night. I used to let her just sleep on the bed and for a while she just wanted to perch on my arm, and that was ok, but now if she wants to nap she will try to get as close to my head as possible and eat my hair! So no more of that lol

I don't mind it too much, and when I inevitably cut my long hair into a pixie cut for the umpteenth time, it won't really be an issue. See, my first pet as a kid was a cat named Snowy who would sleep above my head on my pillow each night. And, well, it's kinda nice to have something that reminds me of her, even if it's a little white duck that eats my hair. :p
