Show off your house ducks!

LOL I totally do! When anyone knocks at the door, his head shoots up and he quacks VERY loudly. Hils and I joke that if anyone ever were to break in we'd know about it immediately, either from his quacking or the fact that whenever there's a stranger in the house my turkey-sized cat will RUN into our bedroom and shove himself under the covers! :p
That is hilarious about your cat. My old dog only used to bark if someone knocked but if you walked in like you owned the place she was fine. My new dog is very protective and when contractors where renovating my house she always right there keeping an eye on them. She did get in the way sometimes.

O, good to know he recognizes other ducks. And if you do get him a hen mate and they hopefully bond, the little guy will be all set.

That last statement re his advances made me laugh out loud.

I'll take a photo of my hands tomorrow when there's better lighting, it's pretty bad...and it's only exacerbated by the fact that he's being given trimeth-sulfa for a minor eye infection, and I'm allergic to all sulfa-based antibiotics. So I have open cuts from his biting, when I accidentally get the sulfa in it...my hands are constantly stinging, swollen, pock-marked monstrous things! It's not a pretty sight!

Amykins, I am so sorry to hear that you're going through this. No wonder your quest for a mate is so urgent. Much needed relief for you and your household. I hope something comes along with a new call duckling soon. And as you mentioned in an earlier post about your breeder being MIA, it's puzzling to say the least.

Ouch that sounds terrible! Have you tried allergy medicine? Maybe you should try giving him prozac. My aunt gives her dog prozac when he gets "in the mood"

I don't know if they even prescribe that for ducks. I'd imagine it can't be good for a birds' liver. I have taken benadryl, but it only helps with the swelling; the stinging and pain, not so much! :p It's only really bad if I get it on an open wound. I'm sending my dear hubby to go get a box of latex gloves tonight.

I agree, Dan's one of the best breeders around and he and I would e-mail back and forth regularly until I gave that other duckling back. I have some theories, but none of them are very happy ones. Those are: 1. The duckling died and/or somehow gave an infection to his flock (he did mention that the duckling did have some mild conjunctivitis in his final email to me one week after the exchange, although I don't know how that could be my fault as it never left the bator until it was in his hands); 2. His wife, who was with him when we made the exchange, decided he didn't want her hubby talking to a ....erm, "endowed" younger woman, or 3. My best friend, who is MtF trans, had driven me to the rendezvous and that weirded him out enough to not want to talk to me anymore.

I know those all sound rather unpleasant, even morbid. That's why I wish I knew the true reason why I've been given the cold shoulder! At least then I'd have closure, you know? He never once seemed upset or angry with me when we met up for the first (and last) time!

Oh thats weird. Could he be having health issues? And wow none of those possibilities seem good. What is his email? I have been wanting to add some good quality birds and if I email him and he responds we no its just you.
