Show off your house ducks!

Aww how sweet! She has such a wonderful little ducky legacy!

ChaCha needs a good pedicure. Her feet are in really good shape considering all her bumblefoot. Poor thing was 95% scabs on her feet when I first got her, now she's got just one rough spot on only one foot =D Vetricyn works miracles I tell you! I finally made her some ducky shoes that I really like. They are children's flip flops with a crocheted top. They are a bit bulky, but they have nice thick padded soles so she can wear them outside and protect her feeties when we go out places, and the crocheted top is nice and breathable for her feet and bandages. She broke a nail on something outside and it's quite sharp! I need to find her a good base coat so her bright polishes really POP! What did you use on Daisy?

I had her in baby socks & painted the little dots on the bottoms with puffy paint, she would wear those when we went out & I wasn't carrying her. I have a Pedi Paws grinder I used on her, she was very good about letting me clip & then grind her claws smooth. I just used dog nail polish I found at the doggy boutique, it seems to dry very quick & come out bright in one coat, I'll have to find the bottles to get some brand names for you :)

Hi!! I'm sorry I haven't been around, just been pouring myself into volunteering, taking my hound on visits to hospitals as a therapy dog. Ever since my Daisy died I've just been so crushed, I miss her so very much. I'm kicking around the idea of another, you know how great Muscovy are. I just don't know. I cry a lot thinking of her.

I am so sorry I didn't know Daisy died when did this happen and what happened if you feel like sharing.

I know, right? We've missed you, girl! :p

Awws! I've missed you all too. :) I'm really missing Daisy so much. I thought it'd get easier but it hasn't. I'm really considering another Muscovy or a serama house bird. If I knew someone local I'd love to pick up a serama or Muscovy on the day it hatches I think.

Sleeping on the babysitter...

My daughter left for the weekend when we still only had one that had hatched. She came back to 5 with one pipped in the incubator. Needless to say she is happy with her babysitting duties tonight!
That is precious. I am envious she's the babysitter.

They have a little brooder next to me where they sleep at night, unless they really cry, then they end up in a towel nest under the blankets. They like to sleep in, which is a plus! They love to be held.. I had my daughter babysit them tonight so I could get stuff done and not listen to them crying at the door!
Aahhhh, Cute that they sleep in a towel nest under the blankets.

Aww baby socks sound adorable!!! ChaCha is a little fussy about stuff attached to her. She doesn't love her shoes... but usually we our out in public and she's too distracted by the people to mess with them lol but once she gets back to her carseat all bets are off!
I would love some brand names if you find them! That would be great! I wonder if there is a doggie boutique around here? If there I is I bet it's just down town and I could ride my bike! I just bought ChaCha a bike basket so she can ride around with me =D

Have you thought about incubating your own eggs? I built an incubator for about $25 and I raise serama, it's not perfect but it works jut fine. Bot as reliable as my little brinsea, but my brinsea cost me $150 for only 12 eggs! Seems like a rip off to me.. anyway I'm getting off topic lol Serama are awesome! If you ever decide you want to hatch some on your own (and believe me if you get more than you want, they are a hot commodity lol, you can always find people on CL willing to take the little cuties off your hands ha) I'd be happy to give you eggs if you can pay for the shipping. I've always got way more eggs than I can hatch and it seems like such a waste!
Same for everyone here - if you want some serama hatching eggs (and serama X silkie because I can't tell their eggs apart lol) just shoot me a message!

They are such great little birds, and everyone I know around here who has a house chicken has a little serum rooster!

Have you considered something a bit more radical but still totally hands off? Cornell Animal Behavior suggests the use of an air horn. I used it for difficult behaviors in a 200+ pound show dog I had. Their original application was for cats, but I've found a cheap boat air horn works for a variety of species. It's simply pairing a jarring stimulus that quickly refocuses the animal's attention with an unwanted behavior. I like it because it is hands off and a purely behavioral intervention. Might be worth a try!

Well...I'll think about it, but I live in a townhome so my neighbors may not take too kindly to that! I really don't know how to curb his behavior at this point. You know how strong hormones can be. But I don't wanna get yelled at by my former boss again!

And Scovy Momma, I'm so sorry...Daisy was truly special. Someday when you think you're ready, I hope you do get another house 'scovy! You've got more than enough room in your heart.

Aug 12. I came home from work & she was just sitting up in her bed on her shavings & blankie like she was asleep. I thought it was weird that she didn't jump up & dance when I got in so I let the dogs out & called her. I don't know what happened, I feel guilty like I should know. I mean she depended on me so much. She was a house duck just so nothing could get to her or hurt her.

I am so sorry for you. Sometimes things just happen out of our control She knew you loved her and I'm sure she loved you. I understand how hard it is they are just like our children.

Pet Head is the brand I had for her polish. The same company that makes Bed Head shampoos & hair stuff have a pet line. It dried pretty quick on her, so that was nice that she didn't have to sit still for so long after the whole nail grinding ordeal

You're so sweet hun! I might just have to take you up on that. How would I pay you for shipping & I'm pretty sure I'll be building the incubator. Maybe this will keep my mind occupied & at least keep me on here more often again. I'm sure I will eventually have to get another scovy but this way I won't feel like I'm replacing her.
