Psychiatrist - my niche is narcissistic personality disorder
would you charactize Narcissus as having that disorder to a degree? I am not intending to be facetious here and let's face it, we're not anthropomorphising here, but ******, critters have personalities and webbed birds are full of animation and zaniness.

Totally!!! That's why we named him that! He's so self important and sees himself as the center of the universe!! Plus he's stunningly beautiful - we couldn't not name him that! Lol!!!

She has a BS in biology from Colgate University, and is now completing an AAS in medical laboratory technology - histotechnology from our local SUNY school.  She discovered that even with a degree from a good school and research experience, it was difficult for her to find a job.  She could complete the histotechnology degree in a year, since she already had all the prerequisites, and after a summer clinical rotation at NYU Medical center, can pretty much go anywhere for a job because histotechs are in short supply and her program is the only accredited program in the country.  It was my first college degree, so I still have much of my old blocks and slides for her to see and learn from.  She is looking for an eventual MD or PhD, but wants a steady income to fall back on while she applies for programs, and the specialized skill set makes her more marketable for science based graduate programs.
Wow. Impressive. I bet you and your hubby are so proud of here. Young folks like her give me hope for our country's future.

He is a young gander - he was hatched out by his parents last year along with his partner Echo.  The name totally fits him, he is SO very full of himself, and has a comment for everything.  No goose has challenged him - the first thing he did when I released him into the yard was put my Toulouse gander down on the ground. He did not, however, expect resistance from my Muscovy drake, who gave it right back to him and refused to be dominated, up until the really bad cold snap and the knob on his caruncle got frostbitten.  He was less into fighting after that, and narcissus finally got the better of him...  I can handle echo if I manage to catch him (he likes to cuddle), but Narcissus will have none of it.  He goose steps off looking very indignant if I try...

I did take some videos of him and the other birds, and discovered that once again, tragedy had befallen the Toulouse. The goose came off her nest, and looked like a drowned rat. It has been so warm that the snow level dropped by over 2 feet overnight.  Of course the ground is still frozen, as is the drainage ditch around the run in shed, and their nest (#2, since the first froze in a cold snap), was half submerged.  I soaked myself squeezing in there and pulling the eggs out, but I removed a clutch of 4 that is now in the incubator with my calls.  Two candled out with early veining, two looked to be laid within the past day or two, but I am not holding out much hope, since they were sitting in the meltwater overnight.  I'll see in a week whether or not they made it...

In the meantime, I will process my goose videos and post one!
your wretched weather is wreaking havoc and you're having to tend to everything at once. It's amazing how you manage all of it. Narcissus really is the kingpin in that group. So I reckon he cannot be around the calls at all.

Thank you everyone for the lovely compliments and so far I am enjoying this forum quite a lot. You all have awesome advice, stories, and ducks! I feel rude I had forgotten to mention who these two even are earlier. Louis, is a Peking/Magpie mix breed, and Josie is a Swedish Blue. Both are three years old.

they are so cute and probably thinking it's time to hop in the pool. The people here on BYC are wonderful. It's so fun talking duck.

No, he is too big and heavy! Even though his shows of dominance are one time only for the other male birds, (he isn't a super bully but he does demand respect!) he could easily crush and injure something as small as tiny as a call.

OMG. Awful thought. Amazing the gazillions of bird species and how diverse their bods are.

eesh, even more reason as you said his name is what it is. He sounds like some boyfriends I have had in the past. But I reckon since he doesn't wanna be touched then you just have to admire his beauty.
