Show off your house ducks!

Went to my buddy the Merck Manual - treatment of pasteurella is different too!!! In humans we start with augmentin because penicillin is often ineffective - in birds it's the go to drug of choice for sulfa resistance! Haven't found why birds have such profound systemic infections yet, but the fact that they call it cholera is too kind of a term!! It is just plain dreadful! It causes suppurative lesions literally everywhere! Going to have to look at vaccinating against it, too much wildlife here not to!

I called around EVERYWHERE before Wobbles hatched, there's a vaccine, but for some reason they only use it on cows and stuff. It's impossible to find one for birds. At least, I couldn't find one. Nobody around here vaccinates ducks at all! :/

What does he actually do when you crate him that's not working for you? If it's just a matter of attacking the cage you could try switching to a solid plastic type cage, or even a cardboard box. Badly behaved male fowl at my house get eaten... lol can't eat poor little wobs!
He attacks them when he's wearing them, or when they are just sitting around? Cause ChaCha will chew on them like toys if left out. If she's wearing it she just preens it with the rest of her feathers lol
This picture is just too much!!! Oh my gosh I'm dying! I wish my animals all got along!
I agree with the mounting! Now my experience is with geese, so I may not be much help, but when I had trucker with my gander I had to be the dominant one. He'd charge, I'd grab him and force him onto his back and honk about like "in the winner!" Until he shut up and gave up, then I'd let him back I'll and rub it in some more "honking" my victory to make sure he didn't think he skulls challenge me again, but I had to go through the whole song and dance every few days.

He is in a plastic bin, and he'll just peck at the sides, flap, jump, and raise hell for THE ENTIRE TIME he's in there! And yeah, he attacks the diapers when they're not on. But he doesn't just nibble them, he will clamber over obstacles just to get at them! He bites so hard I can lift him off the ground, LOL! He's not like this with his other diapers so I have no clue.

I like the stuffed animal idea, since he attacks the diapers, stuffed animals, lotion bottles, etc. maybe I could make him think it's them mounting him and not me, and he'll think that lotion bottles and stuffed animals are dominant...?

At least I do have one trump card: cereal. He will do anything for cereal. He'll stand there while I eat for ten, twenty minutes and beg like a puppy, hoping I drop a morsel!

Well there you go! You just have to eat cereal ALL DAY! lol.

It seems like there is a ton of research on the vaccine in birds, and even vaccination recommendations - and it's nowhere to be found! My only consolation is the parent birds have been stealing food and water from the cats all winter, and they are healthy and lively, so they may have some natural immunity. It still makes me nervous though, as I would not want any of my birds to ever have to go through anything as horrible as a pasteurella infection!!!

Maybe Wobbles will learn to back down from the dominant stuffed animal in the house! Perhaps a lotion bottle or two might also be too dominant for him.... It would be a great break for your hands until he has a real hen of his very own!!

It's the grooming thing that has me most concerned - if he accidentally licks their eye membranes, that'd be an easy way for the bacteria to enter the bloodstream. Sometimes my kitties drink out of his water bowl (and Wobbles loves to steal their kibble, too!) so I use ACV to make sure no biotics can spread in there.

I'm on day one of Operation: Cuddly Dominance, and so far he'll just twist his neck and peck at the plush toy while he's being mounted, LOL! I'm gonna try to take a video tonight for you kukupecpec, it's pretty hilarious to see the lengths he'll go to in order to destroy these diapers. Once they're on he's fine, but putting them on and taking them off? Not so much!

I agree!!! Fortunately, the novelty has worn off for the cats now that they have family room access. They have decided that since they get bitten on the feet regularly, the fuzzy yellow things are not as cool as they had originally anticipated. Two days ago they were trying to get in here every chance they could. I had to put a lock on the door to keep them out! Today, there is not a cat in sight!

Typical, but also makes me less neurotic!

And OMG! "Operation: Cuddly Dominance"!!!! Best mission name ever!!!
