Show off your house ducks!

Thanks! And thanks for the new diapers in the mail today!! I got some fleece and am gonna go that route vs the pine chips! They were out all evening and did well - they weren't so cranky about the diapers now that they have wiggle room. I didn't keep them diapered for bed just because it's so new and they got them all wet with their dinner. We are going to build an outside area this weekend so they can go out during the day. I think next week we will try some over the night diapers to get into the habit. Now if I could just figure out why one duckling has runny nasty poop! Her diapers are terrible to clean up!!

I really like the fleece. It still gets stinky, but it's a lot easier to clean out. Add it helps soak up wetness.
Glad you like the diapers =D

If you feed grassy stuff it'll help with the poop. They just need access to grit of some sort. When ChaCha is on fodder her poops are much more manageable. Although she still gets those REALLY nasty sticky stink bomb cecal poohs. Those are horrible! That always needs a whole new diaper haha.

I wouldn't worry about diapering them overnight yet. If they are on the fleece they will be just fine. You the baby diapers don't have a cup that holds the poop away from them like the grown up diapers do. You don't want that wet mess pressed against their delicate skin all night.

This was my latest set up, I just laid a piece a fleece over the top at night and set the basket next to my bed. if they cried I'd stick my hand in the basket to calm them. They usually slept really soundly though! They only ever jumped out if I forgot to put the fleece"lid" on

Well, with the old diapers it was about ten times (every two hours). Now I can get away with every 3-4 hours, which is SO HELPFUL! Speaking of, I can't wait for your new and improved diapeys to arrive, Kuku! They looked so dang cute and tiny in the photo, it'll be wonderful to see Wobbles struttin' his stuff in one :p

Hey Kukupecpec, I have a question. ChaCha wasn't initially a house duck, correct? I'm trying to remember if it was ChaCha or Quackers who started out life as an outdoor duckie. I learned from Ariel that the ducklings were hatched by her, but they're not imprinted on her. They're sort of imprinted on each other; they recognize her, but she's not bonded with them and they'll start to get upset if separated from the others for too long.

I'm really worried that I won't have a close bond with this baby as I have with Wobbles and Pancake. And poor Pancake, at least he started out life with Milkshake, but it's been several days and I'm all he's got, so I worry about the transition.

Maybe I'm just getting cold feet, but I feel so anxious for this weekend! Do you think Pancake will be okay? I'm sure with time I can form a bond with the new duckling, but I hate the idea of traumatizing her by separating her from the others for the week or so it would take for her to get used to me.

I'm not really sure of ChaCha's origins. I think she was raised as an only duck because of her behavior, but I couldn't tell you if it was inside or out.

I know ducklings get SUPER attached to each other. But I also know that they will forget about their buddies with a little time. Pancake may choose to follow Wobs instead of you though. Not that I have much experience because ChaCha hates all animals lol. I don't think you'll traumatize her though! She'll figure it out =)

I hope you're right. I'll never forget how Milkshake went from being terrified of Pancake to adoring him! I still miss her...but hopefully Hils and I can form just as close a bond with the new duckling.

Aww, he's such a fashionista! <3 I love how he poses for the camera too, Wobbles just tries to eat it. :p
