Yay for the males that do that. I had no idea.Actually, the ganders are the ones that usually adopt & tend the babies...so they don't really care who hatched them.

That is precious.
Hey guys I don't really know how to make my own post so I have to kinda jump on this one. But my imprinted duck (she's the only one I have) is really independent like she spends all day in the garden playing and chasing our cats like she loves it out there so much and then I bring her in and she has a shower or a bath for an hour and then I'll let her wander the house but she just runs straight up stairs to her pen and if I bring her down she'll quack until she can go back up.
Sometimes she'll
Come on my
Bed and she'll stay there and sleep on me but most of the time she'll only be there for a short while before jumping down and quacking to get into her pen.
She doesn't seen unhappy. But should I be worried???

Aww what a sweet kitty! Poor baby pheasant, he doesn't know what he's missing! How lucky to have such a sweet kitty!Woke up to the pheasant chick yelling. Not unusual, they are noisy, to the point where they chirp in their sleep. He had a reason though. Hermes the cat had squeezed into the brooder bucket and was sitting inside with him. Hermes LOVES baby birds. He likes to cuddle them and sit with them and roll around next to them. Baby pheasant is half the size of a golf ball though, and Hermes is a giant kitten. Poor little guy was in a panic. Hermes was waiting for him to run up and snuggle like most chicks do, and a Mexican standoff arose out of the misunderstanding. I let him cuddle with me for the past hour, but now have to run errands, so he's got to go back and be confined in the incubator room while I'm gone. Locking him in means Missy won't have access to her bed, but she goes and hangs out with my mother during the day eats in the kitchen anyway. Perhaps I'll just take her along for the ride...
The pekin and moulard bunch are unzipping, so I'll need another brooder up by the time I get back home.... Ah, the joyful chaos of spring..,,
I agree with Amy - she sounds perfectly happy and content =) Many ducks do get into their routines! They aren't always that bright... but they can be so much smarter than we give them credit for =) What a lucky ducky to have a garden to play in all day long! ChaCha would be so jealous!Hey guys I don't really know how to make my own post so I have to kinda jump on this one. I am sorry her duck pal died. Poor girl. She, though, is an absolutely cute duck!! I am in love with the pictures you've posted. Cuddly bird she is. Is your little furry four legger a shih tzu? super cute. i love those dogs. This is Matilda, our Aylesbury duck. she is 9 weeks old and her duck pal died a few weeks ago. Not replaced her yet because I wanted to ensure Matilda is healthy first. She is a real character. The only problem we have with her is her over grooming of her tummy, which I am putting down to a bit of anxiety, maybe due to being a 'lone duck'. still not sure about getting another one.
