Show off your house ducks!

Yeah, I love how each has their own wildly different personality. Missy is a headstrong big mama, Bean's a demure little scaredypants, and Wobbles is my hopeless klutz who thinks he's god's gift!
I know. It is amazing. Your cuties are different in so many aspects. I love the stories you have told about them. And the videos. The way Bean ran in the park almost makes me think she is not afraid of stuff. She is a zipper of duck speediness. And Wobbles is just Wobbles but not in a trivial way. He does think he is god's gift. And I think he obviously knows how to manipulate you.

I agree! Wobbles is totally convinced he is god's gift to duckdom, and now he has Bean as a gorgeous trophy wife!

Oh, he TOTALLY knows how to manipulate me. He knows he's just a nibble and a head-tilt away from getting anything he wants! My favorite is when he's hungry, he'll waddle into the bathroom, then peek his head around the corner at me as if to say "Well?!"

I laughed at the trophy wife comment, it's totally true. She's a pretty young thing, but she's an olive short of a club sandwich, if you catch my drift!

That is the best thing about him. He works you. If he did that to me I'd pick him up and kiss him like crazy. I can't say it enough how smart he is.

Thanks :) He just loves them. He has some sensory issues, etc and they totally calm him down. When he is upset or angry, he goes and snuggles & "talks" to them. He also sings to them every night before bed. We have had to move their bed into his room, cuz they kept trying to get in there to be with him when he goes to bed.

And Missy is not the worst of her brood! Her sister charms you with her sweet little face and short beak... Then she body slams you. She takes flying leaps onto other ducks, and tries to dominate any errant arms or legs she comes across. She uses her size and weight to literally push the other ducks around!
Narcissus stole the goslings and recruited his partner Echo to play parents. While Missy stayed with the older goslings and Shorty, the little goslings were carefully supervised by their surrogate gander dads. I could actually go inside and clean pens with the babies asleep outside with their babysitters.

Missy enjoyed her afternoon out, but was happy to get back inside, with a newfound appreciation for the goslings. Shorty still thinks there are too many ducks in the pen, so I took her inside where she is sleeping with the younger goslings.
Khan still hops out of the kids' pen at night, and so once again, he ended up on his blankie on the couch...

Missy likes him, but there are too many cockerels in the big pen for me to feel comfortable putting him in there at night...
I am with Shorty, too many ducks in the pen. Too many people in Bend where I live….

I can't believe Missy's sister acts like that. All cute and then body slams the other ducks. Why is she like that? Do she and Missy ever get close to each other?

Love love love the gander dads with the goslings. That top picture kills me. So sweet.

Oh that is so sweet. So sweet you moved them into his room.

Missy and shorty stick with the older goslings. I sold Shorty's siblings today, so there will be less ducks around to overwhelm her. Missy got caught trying to steal the Muscovy nest. Twin 1 was not happy about someone else in her nest, and escorted Missy out by the wing. I put Missy outside with her friends for the day to curb the nest stealing. With the geese fixated on the goslings, she can spend the day foraging and playing in the mud, and then be let back inside at night. It's the best of both worlds for her, and builds her confidence, I have saxony ducklings from Holderread, and once they get a little bigger I'll let Missy raise them. I think that will manage the nest stealing and keep her entertained.
Her sister is just opinionated, and wants to be boss duck. She's an imprint, so she tries to dominate people just like the ducks. It's the same principle as why we don't imprint some raptors like red tailed hawks - they try to dominate as they get older!
I have to start planning a winter pen in the main house for Missy as well...

Oh my word, Missy. She is a mischievous thing. Is the muscovy mom bigger than her? For someone who is anxious about being outside it is nice to hear she is doing so well. Do Missy and her bossy sister get along at all or are they indifferent towards each other?

OH GOD BEAN FLEW. We were at the park this morning and when we got her out of the carrier she just took off!! Thankfully she only went 20 feet or so, and then ran back quick as can be, but man oh man she really gave me a spook! I guess it's finally time to clip her wings. My goodness, she was bookin' it! My little speed demon needs to be grounded.

We got a video of the whole thing too, I'm gonna upload it in a bit to show you guys. It's actually kinda funny to see how I go into instant panic mode in .02 seconds!
