Show off your house ducks!

I think it's more a Peke thing than a crested thing. I've never met a Pekin that didn't have an awesome personality. I swear white calls must have a little Peke in 'em cuz Wobbles acts the exact same way!

That's so awesome that Trina's doing well, I know how hard that was on ya. As for the job thing, eh, I guess I could try to be proactive and start my own project like that, going to schools and whatnot, but I've never done anything like that before and I'm not the best with kids. I actually was up for a job at the bird clinic I used to be at but I was DQ'd since I'd become a client after the fact. Which ****** sucks.
I can't say I know that many pekins, just ChaCha and the one baby I raised (who also lives on a ranch now with her very own boyfriend - I think I've totally lucked out and found the coolest families for my rehomed babies! The two ducklings that were dropped on my doorstep both went to families with a lonely drake and both are now madly in love and are spoiled pets). I'll have to look harder next time I meet one! I wouldn't doubt for a second that Wobs has it in him, I think he's got the mischevious spirit too! Sounds like he passed it on to Bean and she RAN with it hahaha

She's a happy goose. We miss her a LOT, but Pom just wasn't happy inside, and we couldn't give him very much space outside. They are thriving though, and Trina will always be my first little birdy baby!

I don't enjoy children... at all lol. But there are those special few that I can get along with. Normal kids generally drive me INSANE, but I'm good at being a nanny, and when you're searching for money it helps to use a talent ha. But you certainly don't have to go into anything child-related! I just meant if you put it all out there, everything you are good at (even if it seems TOTALLY unrelated) someone will recognize you as exactly what they need. And I think writing about yourself like that gives people extra insight into your personality, more than would ever come out in an interview, and it draws the right employer in your direction. We've all had the boss that just completely rubs us the wrong way... uhg lol

That seems silly... how can they refuse to employ you because you're a client? That's how MOST people in Tucson end up with their vet jobs! They were all clients first and fell in love with the clinic and when a spot opened up they use that relationship to boost them to the top. Seems like a good way to recruit people you trust and know truly care about animals.

x2! That's how I got my job at the vet I've always taken my dogs and cats to! It's the only vet I had ever been a client at and I got really close to the doctors, techs, and everyone when my two Yorkies had my baby Yorkie, Palmer! <3 They trusted me and saw that my dogs meant everything to me! I was hired a couple hours after my interview! It was a SURE thing!

Heck if I know...maybe it's a WA state labor law or something. We got some odd ones on the books, to be sure. Even still, had I known that I'd never had become a client no matter how good I know they are, if it meant ever working there again.

A friend of mine mentioned tutoring. I was a biology major, and I know quite a bit about the sciences, and if I could host wee ones in my home that could work. I'm just not sure about the logistics of it all!

Isn't that the best? That's how I got y first VA job too! Although sadly I met the clinic through a very ill dog, my childhood beagle COPper. We found out he had cancer and in the end he was put down, but the service and understanding in a situation like that can really make a clinic stand out!

You strange northerners =P It's all that snow... I think it must make you all stir crazy haha

Tutoring could be really cool! And serious tutors get paid a LOT. If you can do HS and college tutoring I know people who get paid upwards of $50/hr (and that's in Tucson, which is notorious for it's low-cost everything lol), just gotta find the right side of town to advertise in. It helps to have a personal connection to someone who can use your services and then spread your name. CL is also a good place to start haha

She is so gorgeous!!!! I'm super jealous! Welsh Harlequin was my "must have" duck breed before I got ChaCha. Now the list of wants is growing like mad... but Welsh Harlequin was my original duck love!
Thank you! A welshie was my first must have. I was so lucky to get find her locally. I have kept in touch with the breeder and I think she wishes that she would have held on to her, hehe. My next babies will be a Cayuga and hopefully a Buff or Saxony. Our ducks are strictly pets, although my daughter is excited to try their eggs.

Oh no. The whole thing is sad. I hate the idea that she is being subjected to that and that you love him, too. You certainly have a decision to make. How far away is your friend's farm with the female pekin?

My friends farm is the next town over. Her female pekin actually used to belong to us. She raises Khaki Campbells. We were in the middle of a move, trying to show our house, and had to stay with my mother in between selling our home and building our new home. My friend held her for us but she became a part of their flock and wasnt a pet anymore, so we thought it was best to leave her with her new duck family.
I do not think that we will jump to any decision yet. Stitch is not beating on her all of the time, its just a few (short) times a day. I think hes getting frustrated because she is a few weeks younger than him and Olaf and she is not ready to breed. I do not feel that he is intentionally trying to hurt her but he is definitely trying to breed with her. We will definitely keep a close watch on her, she is my baby and I wouldnt leave her out there if I thought he would kill her.

She's a brave soul! I've never been able to eat straight up duck eggs. Thankfully I've only got ChaCha so I only get a handful each week. But that's plenty to go around my entire extended family for baking purposes!

P.S. ChaCha is following you on instagram =D

It's funny that you say that beacuse if I owned chickens, I would not be able to eat the eggs. My mind tells me that eggs from the store are sanitized and healthier than eggs from your backyard. I know this is not true but I gag when I try to eat farm fresh eggs.

YAY! I will check it out as soon as my phone charges :)
