Show off your house ducks!

I plan on it...eventually...and I'm not trying to sound lazy, ignorant, or selfish but honestly I can't right now. To introduce him to a new duck takes some time with a 20 month old, another baby on the way, working full time, I have enough trouble finding a babysitter for Ryleigh, my apartment is small, we have to save up to get a new place as soon as winter ends, it was hard enough to talk my dh into letting JoJo become a full time house duck, he would never go for two. Its just aaahhhhhh!!!!!! Can't do it right now, I would officially lose it!
Awe, I am sorry to hear about your difficulties. You are managing really the best you can. I am glad you have JoJo in the house. How's he doing?

Most of you know by now that ChaCha hates animals lol

So I was wondering, I know many of you have dogs that get along with your ducks, but do any of you have cat/duck friendships in your house?
There are now TWO neighborhood cats that like the safety of my backyard (because we are the only people in the neighborhood without outdoor dogs), both of them sleep right next to ChaCha's house and ChaCha doesn't mind them at all! But if a dog or rabbit or anything feathered comes within sight ChaCha flips out and will attack and fight them. I'm wondering if a house cat may be in our future ... I'd love to hear your cat and duck stories and see your pictures!

Eh, with my cats it's touch-and-go. Sometimes they get along fine, other times it's a war zone. It depends on how long my kitties will hold a grudge after Wobbles chases them off the bed or away from his water bowl!

As for dogs, I wouldn't chance it for the world. I was raised with terriers and they would always try to catch and kill my cats and bring us dead rats and even possums. Not trusting them around two tiny ducks.

I wish I had my first Newfoundland. She let chicks & baby bunnies climb all over her. She sniffed them & was very gentle. Now my 2nd & 3rd Newfs were a whole nother story. It just depends on the dog. Don't trust the American Eskimo I have now either.

My cats won't mess with an adult duck but they look in the box at new babies & beg me to roll them in catnip & turn them loose. When the ducks grow up they get even with them for their evil thoughts. Lol

I'm not trying to encourage you to get a dog. I'm posting this mostly in case someone finds it useful in the future.

We have three Yorkies, and they wander around among the ducks all the time. They usually don't pay any specific attention to the ducks and vice versa. I actually feel better with the dogs being out there with the ducks in cases the hubby and/or I can't be out in the yard. Every so often, one of the Yorkies will go up to sniff at a duck, which the ducks mostly tolerate. Sometimes one of the ducks snaps at them if they get too close. The dog wastes no time getting out of the duck's 'personal space' when that happens.

Weeeeeee. Two tiny ducks, Wobbles chasing the cats, ChaCha attacking animals that aren't cats. I love both of yours ducks.

NEWFIE! Newfie newfie newfie! <3 I love those dogs! I agree though, I've seen their personalities run the gamut from the most gentle thing on four legs to an eternal puppy. :p

Well yeah, they're yorkies. Your ducks probably are a legitimate threat to them, LOL!

I know Daisy was a Muscovy, but was she a special something that made her so tiny? I have a ducky friend looking for a buddy for their female house duck and she is really interested in muscovies for their quiet quack and sweet temperament but she would love something tiny. I thought I would ask you how/where you got her? Plucky is the duck looking for a buddy - she's the most docile duck I've ever seen and her sweet relaxed loving temperament reminds of Daisy so much!

She was pretty tiny, I'm realizing that now that this baby is already wearing Daisy's last diaper I made for her! I wish I could have gotten another from the same parents but the way I got Daisy was an animal control friend of my ex's was in our neighborhood down the street & confiscated a bunch of animals from goats to chickens to ducks from a house. He rounded them up including Daisy's family & stopped by really quick afterward & offered my ex this small duckling that wasn't moving much or doing much when he grabbed the rest. She didn't run away, just let him pick her up. He thought I'd like to take care of it in case it was dying & left it with me. Daisy was already about 3 weeks old I think & the guy that owned them told the animal control that he didn't touch the chickens or geese or ducks much except to move them so that's why the AC friend was surprised she just let him pick her up.
My mom says that maybe between her being so small when I got her & sickly when she was tiny that she may have had some kind of genetic problem that she eventually died from. I was very lucky that Dais was so chill, I'm learning that with this baby! She is still learning to not nip the other animals or the roommate!

Yeah, I think it really depends a lot on the particular animal--dog, duck, cat, whatever. One of my little 2015 drakes is very assertive. Not a bully or anything like that, but he doesn't tolerate any pushing around. The first time he was in a spot where his group and the adults could make contact, one of the adult drakes approached him, and I could tell that drake was about to make trouble even though I can't say how I knew it. The little drake knew it too, because he looked up from his foraging, stared at the adult for a few seconds like, "I KNOW you are not about to start with me!" put his head down and started running at the adult. That settled that very quickly, and with no injuries other than probably a very bruised ego for the adult.

Ha! Ok I'm legitimately laughing out loud! I Love this image in my head

Well glad to know she was an anomaly so I can key my friend know. I Love that Daisy was a rescue! I had no idea! How sweet. What a lucky life that little feather butt had!
