Show off your house ducks!

You might not get them back?? Why can't you take them with you when you move??

Because I don't know where I'm moving to just yet. I have some friends willing to put me up until I land a job and get back on my feet, but it'll be next to impossible to do that with Wobs and Bean with me needing constant care and attention. Not to mention that the laws regarding barnyard fowl in southern california are kinda wonky and vary from city to city. Even though they're house pets and not just livestock being kept in the yard, the city commission won't see it that way. Ducks is ducks, as they would put it, it wouldn't matter if they live indoors or not, they'd see fit to remove them if someone complained of any noise.

Scovy Momma lives only about an hour or so away from my parents' place, and since I know she's great with house ducks I asked her to take them in, and she agreed. I will never stop being beyond grateful for her help. I know it's a pretty huge favor to ask of anyone. And if my life blows up in CA like it did here in WA, I cannot in good conscience put them through the trauma of another move. I need to be sure I can give a proper home for my babies.

Big HUGE :hugs

I am so very sorry for all you are going through right now, Amykins... I wish you the very best on getting back on your feet and reunited with your sweet baby birbs... it takes a lot of bravery and courage to be willing to put their best interests before yours and I cannot express enough how much I completely understand your situation... support is always here for you if you ever need it...

And a HUGE :hugs to @Scovy Momma for helping out...

Lots of :love and :hugs to you both... hang in there, it will get better...

So sorry Amykins! I know how you feel! I had to give up one of my parrots for a year and that was the hardest thing. I got her back though, and I adopted another parrot I was so happy! I hope you move to a great place that allows ducks. I have an endangered animal as a pet and I was scared the place I live wasn't going to allow him. (They did ;) ) sorry I bored you with my stories! Here's one of my baby's Hershey Kisses riding on the golf cart with me to feed the chickens

Endangered animal? You mean the axolotl? I think those are okay since they can be bred in captivity. And the feds can't prove that yours wasn't captive bred, so...wink wink! At my vet clinic someone has a pet kangaroo. Now THAT is illegal...but their lips are sealed. They only want to give that roo the best life possible. I love vets. <3

What kind of parrots do you have? And why did you have to give it up temporarily? I admit, I'm still scared. Mary has the biggest heart ever to take in my birbs, but I still worry. You know how moms are. "What if her dogs get them? Will she change her mind if Wobbles nips her one too many times? Should I get him fixed, or give Mary the option of hatching out some Beanbles of her own? What if Bean flies away? What if they get sick and I'm not there to take care of them?" :/

Speaking of house ducks, I think I figured out a great way to punish Wobbles without injuring him. If any of you have a problem drake, this could work for you, too! You guys all know how he keeps biting my ankles when I walk from room to room? Well, after some reading I learned that doing things like walking away or tapping his bill is submissive behavior. It makes Wobs think he's got me on the ropes, and therefore feels rewarded for his cements his status as top birb began stomping my feet loudly. Boy, did he ever run! I shuffled close behind, using my hand into a duckbill to bite his behind as I chased him around the room, just like a dominant drake would. He still gets a bit nippy with me sometimes, but he sure thinks twice now before challenging Alpha Mama Duck!

It makes him think he's got me on the ropes, and therefore rewards the bad behavior in his tiny birb brain. So yesterday I decided to turn the tables on the lil' turd. The moment he went to bite my pants hem, I turned and began stomping my feet loudly. Boy, did he ever run! Yea the axolotl, they're illegal in New Jersey and some parts of New York and that's were I live. Just didn't bring the axolotl up when I got him... I also have a Canadian goose and a northern rosella which are not legal as pets, but I got the rosella as a mix up and I absolutely adore her Lol. My one parrot is a English budgie and the other is a northern rosella. I had to give them up bc I was deadly allergic to birds (and now I have 57 birds...) I take medicine now so I can have them. I was worried that in the time they were with a friend she would grow tired of Tippi's (rosella) midnight screaming and her endless singing the song "timber". But she was great and she even bought her own bird she missed them so much.

I know that worrying feeling. Every week in June we leave for a week and a half and we have so many animals that have to be taken to their babysitter, and I worry about my ducks and chickens, pig and goose who have to stay home. I call the babysitter everyday! Haha

I'd never heard of a Northern Rosella before, they're positively gorgeous! They even rival some macaws! Oh, and those cute lil' chubby cheeks and big, brown eyes. It's just too much. <3 *sigh* I don't know how I'll handle being apart from these ducks. What's worse, on top of the difficult, unlikely possibility of finding a place to rent that'll be cool with indoor ducks, my boyfriend can't stand them. He's terrified of birds. So if he and I end up getting married someday, it'll be a huge hurdle to work through since it's not really something that can be compromised on, you know?

Thank you! I love my northern rosella too, I think they're the prettiest. Hmmm your in a pickle aren't you. Well I'll be praying for you. Maybe your boyfriend can go to duck therapy :D to rid his fear. I have no doubt God will find you and your ducks a place.

Amy, DH was deathly afraid of snakes when we started dating. I borrowed a snake and we took it to animal education opportunities. We borrowed another snake too and needed an extra hand. I told DH he was just going to have to get over it. We started out slowly, just looking at it from across the room, got closer gradually and I held the head so he could touch the tail. He quickly found out it wouldn't eat him and we even owned snakes. Start out slow, do you have any little ones to kind of ease him into it?
