Blue Brassy Back Hens
400

I love brassies. I have a pair of blues. Those are pretty.

I wonder if that disposition is genetic in brassybacks? Mine is super docile and curious, follows me like a dog. Have never seen one that was mean.

Mine was raised by a guy who has hundreds of birds. He treats them well, but I know he couldn't of had time to dote on one or two. I have several cockbirds. Some are a pleasure to be around, but some are hell spawn, great white sharks in 20 oz feathered bodies, lol. I thank God every day that they're not standard sized fowl.

I've never had a mean hen. I've had cocks that bite and spur. They're so small that it doesn't hurt, and I usually keep spurs trimmed. Seems they get mean when I put them in the breeding pen. Most seem to lose interest if I don't make a big deal over it. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority are easy going, and I've never raised one that was mean. But I've got a couple that love to come after me. I wind up getting rid of the ones that do as soon as I can replace them in the breeding pen.

I got rid of a SDW recently that was a holy terror. One of the cockerels I got out of him is so calm and intelligent. If he finishes out nice, I may show him this fall.
