It takes those cockerels a while to grow all their feathers in. BBR or wheaten over your birds will give you something similar.

Blues that turn out the right color (some will, some won't, or at least that's how it works for me) are something to see. Blacks will give you good type as well.

Alex, took these pics last night to show you the spur growth over time and how you can approximate the age of your birds.

The first is a cockerel, will be a year old in the spring.

The second is a cock, an upcoming 2 year old.

The third is a cock that is approaching his 3rd year.

Obviously, that last one really needs to be trimmed so it doesn't interfere with breeding.
