Hi guys so I am looking into getting a rooster and a couple of OEGB hens to add to my mixed flock, but my pen is uncovered and I am worried about Hawks. I have been keeping standard Chickens 2.5 years and bantams for 1 year and have never had one taken and I have heard that hey are very bright and alert so they should get to cover. What d you guys think? Thanks

They should do fine. They can fly long distances.

I would not get oegb's if I didn't have a covered pen. I've been sitting in the yard about 20 feet away from my birds, watching them as they foraged, and had a falcon dive right down and land on one of my pullets. If I hadn't been there to scare it off, she would've been dead.

That's only my opinion, but we have a lot of very bold hawks and falcons here.
