Welcome! Hope your little one comes around. I am keeping my first rooster ever. I'm a little worried. Have heard of not so nice roosters, and that some are sweet roosters. I can't keep a mean rooster, I am crossing my fingers that he is sweet. He is just a cockerel for now, hasn't even crowed yet. He has a sweet face, but I know that doesn't mean he will be nice. I hope he will be.

I have had many roosters over the years. I love them all. I had one that wasn't nice. I did finally get through to him that I was the alpha but that didn't pertain to other people. He finally went to an auction. Don't know if he was going to be a breeder or eaten.

yess so truee.. i just confused with a bunch cockerel, "heeyy dude, she is a girl, don't you like her..?" all the teenagae cockerel attack her, hopefully when she grow up and become a mature hen, they are like her.. and for temporarily, i separated her.

but it's kinda they are like to hate her and try to drive away from the flock, but sometime i observe, that there are one cockerel try to explore and recognize her, but sometime he still attack her.

Snap! My red sex link went broody 3 times in the 14 months that I had her. The first time I managed to break her, but twice she just wouldn't give it up. As I don't have a cockerel I bought day-old chicks to put under her after 3 weeks brooding - she loved them, and was the best mum ever. (The last time she brooded I couldn't get hold of chicks quickly, and she spent over 5 weeks on the nest waiting for her plastic eggs to hatch!). Unfortunately her nickname was 'Dora the Explorer' and she lived up to it - a few months ago she got out of the back garden and got herself run over on the road in front of our house. (A road that sees a dozen cars a day if it's busy - talk about bad luck!) I'm so upset - when she laid she was a 6 or 7 eggs a week girl, and when she brooded she raised me lovely chicks - I will really miss her.

Most Sex Links are either Red Sex-Links or Black Sex-Links. Red Sex-links are Golden Comet, Gold Star, or Cinnamon Queen or are simply called Red Sex-Links. It depends on the specific cross used. Red Sex-Links are produced by a number of different crosses.

I believe a Production Red is a RIR and New Hampshire cross (two red birds). A RSL (red sex-link) is a red roo and a white with barring or silver factor hen (one white bird and one red bird).

Yes, the silver factor is important to get the RSL. And, if I remember correctly, those are the ones that easy to sex...reds..are pullets..whites..are boys. Right?
